How to Recognise Tanks and Where to Shoot Them
By [DoP] GLaDOStheFrog
When starting out in tank combat in Red Orchestra, if you don't already have a little prerequisite knowledge of the silhouettes of the T-34/76, T-70, Panzer III Ausf. L and Panzer IV Ausf. F2, then telling them apart can be a daunting task. On top of this, you need to know where to shoot, otherwise your shells could just bounce off!

THIS GUIDE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS
Please note before reading:

This guide is totally unfinished. I have simply uploaded what I have made so far so that people can see it while I make the rest.

If you spot any errors that I may have missed (spelling/grammar wise or factual), please point them out to me in the comments.

Thanks for looking!
T-34/76

The T-34 is a helpful tank in that it has a very distinctive shape - extremely sloped armour in all directions, turret mounted right at the front, and large road wheels with no return rollers. This makes it very easy to tell whether a tank is a T-34. This is very helpful for the German tank commander when he is trying to identify a tank as friend or foe.

On the other hand, the other effect of the distinctive sloped armour of the T-34 is that it bounces shells very easily, and, as a result, you have to land your shots carefully or they won't be particularly effective. If you can get a clear shot at the gap between the second and third road wheels, always go for it. You will very reliably cause the T-34 to explode. Otherwise, go for the turret ring (the are where the turret meets the hull) as you can jam their turret, and the space where the tracks meet the hull, as you can immobolise the enemy.

To summarise, the T-34 is easy to identify but formidable in combat, with no guaranteed kill shots to the front (unlike the Panzer III and IV...) but if you aim carefully, and with a bit of luck and trial and error, you will be able to frequently blow the bolsheviks sky-high!
T-70

The T-70's shape is a little less distinctive than that of the T-34, but there are still a few giveaways. One of the easiest ways to spot a T-70 is the fact that it is tiny. Intended only as a scout tank, it has only a crew of two men, and takes up very little space. From the front or rear, the offset turret also gives it away, and from the side the shape of the tracks is the easiest clue, as nothing else in-game has tracks shaped like that.

When fighting a T-70, the best thing to do is flank. Get around and shoot the very, very weak side and rear, and there will not be much for you to worry about. One of the major flaws of the T-70 is that it only has a crew of two men, and as such if you take one out the other must take over. This means that if you kill the driver on a T-70, the commander/gunner/loader (so called because he has to do all of those jobs on his own) can take over or stay where he is. The opposite is true if you kill the commander/gunner/loader. Therefore, a T-70 with one crewman killed has the choice between either moving or shooting, with a lenghty switch between the two.

As a result of this, a good place to shoot the T-70 is the turret side, as it kills the commander/gunner/loader. My other favourite place to shoot it is the area of the hull below the upper surface of the tracks, as you deal a lot of damage and if you shoot the right place the T-70 can 'cook off' (the ammunition burns out).

I don't want it. Being civil is how you stop the UK becoming a cess pool. Anyone civil would bury their sewage, or at least send it to a sewage processing plant.
