Breach: a complete guide to the gamemode
Af Luuxter
Greetings, reader. This guide is designed to help you find your way in Breach, which is arguably one of the best and most fun gamemodes in Garry's Mod! This particular guide, unlike any other, features a COMPLETE explanation of the entire gamemode, including a map, and is independently written without focusing on any specific server.

Classes
In Breach, you can spawn as a wide variety of classes. In this section you will find all the classes, their jobs, who they need to watch out for and other tips.

Note: all the spawn locations of the classes can be found in the provided map. Note that this may differ on some servers!

Class D Personnel
Spawning equipment: none.
Who you need to watch out for: MTF Personnel, Researchers and SCP's.
Goal: escaping the facility.

Description:
The most common role in the game is Class D Personnel. It is probably the hardest one too, because everyone except the Chaos Insurgency will try to kill you. You start out with nothing but the sole goal to escape the facility. Sticking together is of great essence when playing as this role, because alone, you will not stand a chance, unless you play it extremely smart. Try to find armour and guns so you can defend yourself, and watch out for Armed Site Security, as they will shoot you on sight. Escaping is your one and only objective, so make sure you do it by any means necessary!

Class varients:
None. Some servers do have the role 'Class D Veteran', who spawns with a level 2 keycard and has some minor improvements in his statistics. Note that this depends on the server, this class varient is not always available.

Researchers
Spawning equipment: a level 2 keycard.
Who you need to watch out for: SCP's, Chaos Insurgency and Class D Personnel.
Goal: escaping the facility.

Description:
As a researcher, your only objective is, just like a Class D's, to escape the facility. However, life is slightly easier for you because MTF Personnel will escort you to the exit instead of murdering you. You also spawn with a level 2 keycard, allowing you to progress through the game more easily. Team up with your fellow researchers to find the MTF Personnel who will help you to escape. If necessary, befriend some Class D's to escape the facility.

Class varients:
  • Medic: a researcher with a med kit. Besides escaping, your job is to keep the other researchers and MTF Personnel happy and healthy.

MTF Personnel
Spawning equipment: a level 4 keycard, a radio and a stunstick.
Who you need to watch out for: SCP's, Chaos Insurgency and Class D Personnel.
Goal: escorting researchers to safety, killing SCP's, CI and Class D Personnel.

Description:
MTF Personnel needs to escort researchers to the helipad. There are many variants of this role, so the spawning equipment differs. The spawning equipment stated above is the basic package every MTF Class gets. Remember: you must shoot every Class D you find on sight.

Class varients:
  • Security Officer: this is the most basic role of all MTF Personnel. In addition to the basic spawn equipment, you receive an MP5. Listen to your chief and the commander and escort the researchers to the exit!
  • Security Chief: help your fellow MTF Personnel and escort researchers. In addition to the basic spawn package, you receive an MP5 and camera access. Be sure to listen to the MTF Commander!
  • MTF Guard: another basic MTF Class. In addition to the regular spawn package, you get an UMP .45. Communicate with your teammates, escort researchers and kill SCP's!
  • CI Spy: in every way possible, you look like an MTF Guard. You have the same equipment, armor and ID. The only thing that seperates you from regular MTF Personnel is the fact that you are a Chaos Insurgency in disguise. You need to kill all Researchers and MTF Personnel, but be careful - do not ruin your disguise if you can keep it. Capture Class D's and help them escape!
  • MTF Medic: in addition to the default spawning package, you receive a medkit and an UMP .45. Your job is everything a regular MTF Class should do - but you also need to heal your teammates.
  • MTF Lieutenant: you are an important asset to your team. Besides your regular spawn equipment, you receive night vision goggles, camera access and an AR-15. Communicate with your fellow MTF Classes and listen to the instructions of your commander.
  • MTF SCU: you get night vision goggles, camera access and a SCAR-H in addition to your default spawning package. You have a gun that deals much damage, so use it wisely! Listen to the commander, help researchers and kill Chaos Insurgency, SCP's and Class D's!
  • MTF Sniper: you are the long-distance damage dealer on your team. You receive a L115, night vision goggles and camera access in addition to your default spawn equipment. Stay in the back and spot enemies! You are very useful when on the ground floor.
  • MTF Commander: the boss of your team. Tell your staff what to do and where to go and organise your actions. Communication is key! Besides the default spawning package, you receive camera access, night vision goggles and an AR-15. Coordinate with the Site Director.
  • Site Director: you lead all MTF Personnel and make sure you are heading the right way. You receive a keycard level 5 (so no keycard level 4), a Desert Eagle and camera access. Talk to the MTF Commander to make sure you align your orders. Work together and lead your team!
Chaos Insurgency
Spawning equipment: a level 4 keycard, a radio, a stunstick and an AK-74.
Who you need to watch out for: SCP's, MTF Personnel and Researchers.
Goal: rescuing Class D Personnel and killing SCP's, Researchers and Security Personnel.

Description:
If you are dead, you have the chance to spawn as this class at the 8 or 2 mark. You will always spawn outside (the precise location can differ, it depends on which server you are playing on). You need to work as a team to help every Class D you can, and kill everyone else. There are many ways to play as this class: you could wait on the ground floor, camp at the gates/exit, go back into the facility, etc.

MTF NTF
Spawning equipment: a level 4 keycard, a radio, a stunstick, night vision goggles and a G36C.
Who you need to watch out for: SCP's, Chaos Insurgency and Class D Personnel.
Goal: rescuing researchers and killing Class D's, SPC's and Chaos Insurgency.

Description:
If you are dead, you have the chance to spawn as this class at the 8 or 2 mark. You will always spawn outside (the precise location can differ, it depends on which server you are playing on). You need to work as a team to escort every Researcher you encounter to the exit. Remember to watch out for SCP's, Class D Personnel and Chaos Insurgency.

SCP's
Goal: escaping the facility and killing any human being you encounter.
Who you need to watch out for: every human being.

Description:
This is the class who everyone wants to play as. No wonder, you get to kill everyone with your epic special abilities! Remember that escaping the facility is your main goal. Try to kill as many people as you can, but leave one (or a couple) alive, because SCP's cannot pick up keycards to open the gate, which is needed to escape. However, you could just hope for someone to trigger an explosion of Gate A.

For a detailed description of all SCP's, go to the dedicated section.
SCP's
Everyone wants to play as an SCP: you get to kill everyone and escape. However, if you do not know how to handle your class, you probably won't succeed - but get killed by MTF Personnel. Below you will find a detailed description of all SCP's. Note that 'The main SCP's' appear in every server, but the other ones might not.

The main SCP's
SCP-173
This SCP is only able to move when he is not being looked at. Whenever someone looks at him, he basically freezes. However, when nobody is looking at him or everyone blinks, he moves extremely fast. His primary attack is 'snapping necks', which can be done by pressing your left mouse button. You instantly kill any person when using this attack. In addition, SCP-173 has a special ability which can be activated by pressing your right mouse button. You can temporarily blind everyone near you (they will be blinded for 5 seconds). This special ability has a cooldown of 30 seconds.

SCP-457
This SCP burns, always. Whenever he is close to someone, the person he is close to will catch his flames and burn alive. This burning effect wears off over time, so if you play as this SCP, stay with your victims for a while. You are relatively slow, so mind that when planning your attacks. On the other hand, you do have plenty of health - you are a tank. Note that this class is very good when close to large groups of people.

SCP-049
This SCP looks like a plague doctor. He walks slow, but can turn anyone instantly into a zombie. Just a touch is needed to turn people into your slaves. Whenever someone becomes a zombie, they gain health and can attack persons with their hands. Stick together with your zombies and build an army! You are also a tank - you have lots of health.

SCP-106
This SCP can capture people so that they will enter his 'pocket dimension'. In there, his victims can find a way out, but it is quite hard to do so. This SCP is not fast, it is actually kind of slow. However, all it needs is a touch to capture people. Note that this also does some damage (around 25) to his victims.

The other SCP's
SCP-966
This SCP is invisible at all times, except when being looked at through night vision goggles. Note that you will only see its shape, so the picture is not how he will look like because he is invisible. It deals damage to people when close to them. This SPC is very good when working together with other SCP's, because you can act as a great distraction so that the rest of your SCP-team won't be noticed. Note that this SCP is unable to run.

SCP-096
This SCP has a body which is completely out of proportion. He has claws, which are used as a primary attack. The special ability of this SCP is that it gets extremely fast when being looked at, so note that this is kind of the opposite as SCP-173. These two SCP's work very well together because of that.

SCP-999
This SCP looks like a friendly, jelly pudding. It has no ability that can damage anyone, he can in no way attack anyone. What he can do, though, is heal people. He can use his healing ability, and in addition, his group healing ability. Both these abilities usually have a cooldown that lasts only a couple of seconds. Next to that allow most servers SCP-999, also known as 'The Tickle Monster', to team with everyone, because of his friendliness. However, this may be different on some servers.

SCP-1048-A
This SCP looks like a teddy bear, but consists entirely of human ears. It is very small and hard to aim at. Its ability allows this SCP to emit high-pitched sounds, damaging players around him. Note that it usually does not do much damage, but servers can always change this.

SCP-096
This SCP has a body which is completely out of proportion. He has claws, which are used as a primary attack. The special ability of this SCP is that it gets extremely fast when being looked at, so note that this is kind of the opposite as SCP-173. These two SCP's work very well together because of that.
Escaping the Pocket Dimension
You will get captured by SCP-106 quite frequently. Below you will find some tips on how to escape his confusing Pocket Dimension!

The room with 4 possibilities
To escape this chamber, simply take the entrance on your right. This will work everytime, since you spawn in a fixed position when entering this room. When taking this entrance, you will immediately escape the Pocket Dimension and spawn at the second checkpoint.

The room with 8 possibilities
Unfortunately, you will always spawn in a random position when being captured by SCP-106 and teleporting to this room. For that fact, you must simply pick an entrance, because every entrance looks the same.
From this room, you can either immediately escape, get teleported to the room with 4 possibilities, get teleported to the room with two options or to the most difficult area: the swinging hammers.

The swinging hammers area
This is definitely the part where most people die. You need to pass two swinging hammers, creating 3 dangerous positions. Two were 1 hammer swings by, and one in the middle where both swing by. My advice is to just walk really slowly until you are right in front of a hammer. Just when it swings by, quickly run and you will be safe. The trick here is to be patient.

The room with two exits
You might also teleport to this room. This is a fairly easy one: it has two exits and only one of them will open. You gotta sprint for a bit and make a jump: you will end up in the swinging hammers area. Remember to take your armor off when going for this jump, otherwise you will end up falling to your death.

Using SCP-106' containment room as an escape
Let's say you are being chased by an SCP and in the heavy containment area. In order to quickly go to the other side of the map, you can go into the containment room of SCP-106. You will have to use the stairs to get to the bottom floor, where you will find a black spot on the ground. When walking over it, you will proceed to fall into it, teleporting you into the Pocket Dimension. However, since you did this volunteraly, you will spawn in a fixed position. In order to get out and teleport to the other side of the map (the second checkpoint), you need to go into the North-West entrance.

General tips
Below you will find some tips that will help you in the game. These apply to any class.
  • Teamwork is key. Alone, your chances of survival are much smaller than when you are operating as a team. So stick together and communicate!
  • If possible and safe, use Gate B to escape the facility. You will not have to walk very far to get to the exit or to be escorted by MTF Personnel.
  • The game does not end the second you get into a Gate A or B elevator. On the ground floor, MTF units are ready to kill any SCP's and Class D Personnel. Later on, Chaos Insurgency spawns as well. So always be careful when entering a Gate elevator!
  • When SCP-173 uses its blinding ability and you get affected by it, you can still move. Be sure to jump and run all you can to avoid (or delay) getting killed by The Sculpture!
  • If you are a Researcher, stay with MTF Personnel! They have weapons, high-level keycards and armour. Your chances of survival will definitely improve once you find them.
  • When you get 'cured' by SCP-049 and transform into a zombie, it is of great essence to stay with the other zombies & SCP-049. Together, you stand a much better chance of killing people, surviving and escaping!
  • If you are an SCP, do not kill everyone until either Gate A or B have been opened. You will not be able to escape if you do!
Escaping the facility
Researchers, Class D Personnel and SCP's all need to escape the facility, so it is of great importance to know how to do that as efficiently and safely as possible.

Opening the gates
  • Go to the electric room (image provided).
  • Find the lever saying 'REMOTE DOOR CONTROL' and switch it to 'off'.
  • Go to SCP-079 and press 'e' when standing in front of the computer.
  • The computer will now talk to you for a while. Just wait until he is done.
  • Go back to the electric room.
  • Switch the lever saying 'REMOTE DOOR CONTROL' back to 'on'.
  • Proceed to Gate A or B. Now use a level 4 keycard to open the gate.
  • The gate is now open!
Exploding Gate A
If Gate A needs to be opened, you can let it explode by typing a command in the console. Note that you can only do this if you are Chaos Insurgency or MTF Personnel.
  • Open the console by pressing the following button: `
  • Type the following command: br_destroygateA
  • Press enter and close the console. A timer will start and Gate A will explode when it expires.
Escaping by using Gate A
  • First of all, make sure that Gate A is open. In order to open this gate, a level 4 keycard is required.
  • Once Gate A is open, go into the elevator and leave the facility.
  • You are now in a building on the ground floor.
  • Walk to the exit (route provided).
Escaping by using Gate B
Note: escaping by using Gate B is the fastest way to escape.
  • First of all, make sure that Gate B is open. In order to open this gate, a level 4 keycard is required.
  • Once Gate B is open, go into the elevator and leave the facility.
  • You are now on the ground floor.
  • Walk to the exit (route provided).
Escaping as a researcher
As a researcher, you can escape on your own by following the steps stated above. In addition, one can be escorted to the exit by MTF Personnel. If possible, try to do so. It is safer than escaping on your own. You will have to go to another exit (route provided).

A map of the facility
Something that seemed essential to me was a proper map of the facility. Especially when you are just starting out and get lost in the facility, a map can guide you to known areas and the exit.

Please note that this map will update at any given point in time. I will try to add things to it as often as possible. If you would like to add something to this map, please tell me in the comment section down below, and if I feel that it is important, I shall edit the map.

In addition, not all SCP-spawnpoints have been marked on this map, just the basic ones. This has to do with the fact that many servers have different spawnpoints and custom SCP's.

Equipment and weapons
In Breach, a wide variety of equipment and weapons can be found. This includes keycards, night vision goggles, SCAR-H's and much more! Below you will find everything you can find in the default Breach gamemode. Please note that some servers may use custom skins or weapons.

Equipment
Keycards
These are essential items in the game, they are needed to progress through the map and escape the facility. There are many keycards in the game, ranging from clearance level 2 to 6. Note that a level 6 keycard is called 'Keycard Omni'.

Radio
MTF Personnel and CI Personnel will spawn with radios. These are used to communicate with each other over long distances. You can turn the radio on and off by pressing your right mouse button, and you can move a channel ahead by pressing your left mouse button. Once activated, the radio does not need to be held all the time. You can simply equip a weapon, and when you talk, everyone on the same channel will hear you, no matter how far away.

Camera View
Some MTF Personnel spawns with camera access. This allows you to see what is currently happening at important locations such as the gates, SCP containment rooms and general areas.

Night vision goggles
Some MTF Personnel spawns with night vission goggles, often called 'NVG'. These are used to see SCP-966, who is invisible when not wearing NVG.

Medkit
A medkit is used to heal yourself or your teammates. It has only one usage.

Ultra Medkit
An ultra medkit is used to heal yourself or your teammates. Unlike the regular medkit, this one has unlimited uses. Medics spawn with this piece of equipment.

SNAV
This device is used to navigate and find your location on the map. I think it is pretty useless - all it does is give you an overhead view. With the map I created for you, this thing is useless!

Ultra SNAV
This device can be used to find the location of items such as keycards and other people. It is very useful, as it will definitely help you to progress through the map more easily.

Vests
Breach features many vests which can protect you from bullet damage. They all reduce bullet damage by 15 percent. The fireproof vest also reduces fire damage by 30 percent, in addition to the bullet damage.
  • Security Guard vest
  • Security Chief vest
  • MTF Guard vest
  • Lieutenant vest
  • Commander vest
  • Fireproof vest
  • Hazmat suit
  • NTF vest
  • Chaos Insurgency vest

Weapons
Breach also features many weapons. Below you can find them in their corresponding category.

Melee weapons
  • Stunstick
  • Crowbar

Pistols
  • Desert Eagle
  • FN Five-Seven

Submachine guns
  • H&K MP5
  • H&K UMP .45

Shotguns
  • Serbu Super Shorty
  • Benelli M3

Rifles
  • AR15
  • AK-74
  • SCAR-H
  • M14-EBR

Sniper rifles
  • L115

Important locations
The map of Breach features multiple locations where you can either find good stuff or do something special. These can be found below!

SCP-035
Most servers allow SCP-035 to team with Class D Personnel or Researchers. Be sure to check the server rules to know if this may be done on the server you are playing on!

If you are playing as a Class D or a Researcher, you have the ability of equipping SCP-035. This is a mask, which will transform its wearer into SCP-035. This will change your health to 250. You will now be an SCP, so you will not have to worry about other SCP's killing you anymore. Do however note that anyone else will be hunting for you now. Also note that you can still pick up keycards, weapons, etc. This makes you a useful asset to the other SCP's.

Above you will find the location of SCP-035 on the map and a route on how to get to it as a Class D. It can also be followed as a Researcher.

SCP-914
Unlike other SCP's, this one actually helps you. SCP-914, also known as 'The Refiner' can transform items put in it into better items. The machine is big and has a lot of gears, and can be found near the Class D Personnel and Researchers spawn. It has multiple settings (Rough, Coarse, 1:1, Fine and Very Fine). It is mainly used to level up keycards. Anyone can use it - there are no class-specific restrictions. You simply drop a keycard (default: Q) in the 'Input' slot, select a setting, press the button, wait for a bit and get it out of the 'Output' slot. Please note that it does not always immediately work: you might need a couple of tries before levelling your keycard up to the wanted level.

Remember that you need a level 2 keycard to open the door of this SCP!

The Armoury
If you want to survive as a Class D or a Researcher, a way to defend yourself (a weapon) is quite useful. Across from the Researchers spawn, you will find the armoury. It contains ammo, armor and guns. The unfortunate thing is that it requires a level 4 keycard. People often upgrade their keycards at SCP-914 and then come back to loot the armoury.

Commands
In order to do your job well, you need to be familiar with a couple console commands in Breach. You can find these below.

How to insert console commands
  • Type ` in Garry's Mod. The console will now appear.
  • You can either type the command manually or simply copy it from this guide.
  • Press enter when you are done, and you are good to go!

br_destroygateA
This one can only be executed whilst playing as Chaos Insurgency or MTF NTF. Its purpose is to blow up Gate A. Remember that it can not be used from a distance: you need to be in front of the keycard security system to explode the gate. It will trigger a 30-second timer after which the gate will explode.

br_dropvest
If you need to make a jump which you may not fail, want to switch vests or simply don't want to wear one (you will run a lot faster), you can type this in the console to take your vest off and drop it on the ground.

br_requestescort
As MTF Personnel, you need to escort Researchers. When you reach the escort gate, stand in front of it with the Researcher(s) and type this in the console to send them away. Always try to escort the Researchers this way rather than letting them go to the regular exit, as it is faster and will grant both of you bonus points.

Trick: I can really recommend binding your 'Suit Zoom' to a key like 'G' (that is what mine is set to). This can be done in your Garry's Mod settings. It allows you to easily request escorts & you get to play awesome sound effects!
