If you forget your steam password after a long time of inactivity, or purchase a steam account with an unknown password. Here is a really simple way to reset your password in a few basic steps without the need to contact steam support.

Requirements To Use This Method
What information must i already know to be able to do this?
  • Account UserName And/Or associated E-mail address

  • The account's registered E-mail account

Other Requirements
  • Must have either a PC, laptop, Steam Link or console
  • A system with the ability to run Steam's Big Picture Mode.
    Basic system hardware to run big picture mode;
  1. OS: Windows Vista or newer, Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) or newer, Linux Ubuntu 12.04 or newer, SteamOS.
  2. 1 GB RAM
  3. 3.0 Ghz P4, Dual Core 2.0 (or higher) or AMD64X2 (or higher)
  4. Required / at least 256MB memory and DirectX 10-compatible with support for Pixel Shader 4.0, Recommended / 512MB+ memory and DirectX 10-compatible
  5. 1 GB or more disk space recommended

  1. Launch the Steam Client
  2. If Steam asks you to sign in, enter your password and tell Steam to remember your password so you won’t have to sign in each time you boot up. If you do not have another account than the one you are trying to access, you should create one here.

  3. Click the “Steam” menu,


    Select “Settings”,


    Then, click over to the “Interface” tab. Enable both the “Run Steam when my computer starts” and “Start Steam in Big Picture Mode” options.

Opening Big Picture Mode
Go to your operating system's variation of Task Manager and ensure that all Steam app processes are not running.

When you next launch steam it will automatically boot into Big Picture Mode.

  1. When Big Picture Mode is launched, you will be prompted to login to your account

  2. Select "LOGIN HELP" below the detail entry form.
  3. From there onwards Steam will guide you through the simple steps to instantly recover your account!

  1. Sign into your account or a Steam account through Big Picture Mode
  2. Click the settings cog in the top right hand corner of the page.



  3. Select "Exit Big Picture", At this point you can revert the setting changes you made in the previous steps to enable Big Picture Mode.
