Equipment and You
Von Foxfisher159
No, just because the Perfected Set is one of the best sets of equipment doesn't mean it's perfect for all situations. This guide aims to help you choose what Blades, Scabbards and 3DM/ODM Gear to choose. Keep in mind that this isn't an objective list of the gear you should always use. It depends mostly on playstyle.

To start us off, let's start with a quick explanation of what I won't. be covering. This will most likely be updated in the future.

All Sets marked with an asterisk are still up to testing and might be added in the future.
I WILL NOT BE COVERING:
  • Instructor's Set
  • Third Generation Set*
  • Reinforced Set*
  • Koenig Set*
  • Ultimate Duster
  • Anti-Hardening Set*
  • Third Sunrise Set*
  • Regulation Hunting Set
  • Roteeisen & Rotebogen(Will be added in the future!)
  • All DLC items

Why I will not be covering The Instructor's Set:
It's overshadowed by the Third Generation Set, which is a straight upgrade.

Why I will not be covering The Regulation Hunting Set:
It's not that viable. The only thing the Scabbard has going for it is it's 5 Blade capacity. But other choices with 5 Blades would be any of the Wings. The Blades are balanced but the Reinforced Blades do it's job better at the cost of durability. And all the Gear has going for it is just the Anchor Strength which can easily be beat out.

Why I will not be covering The Ultimate Duster:
It's just a joke weapon. If you're using it, you're not taking the game seriously and I respect that. But just don't expect it to preform well on Struggle to Survive.

Why I will not be covering the DLC items:
From what I've seen, they're generally weaker than most of the vanilla sets and are just plain ugly.

All items have been forged to 99 stars.
With all of this being said, let's move onto the Blades.
Blades(Preface)

All Blade's stats are automatically compared to the Rozen Rapier
Blades(Part 1)

Rapier VI

Nightmare Blade III

Unicorn Horn III

Rozen Rapier

Rapiers are some of the most reliable Blades you can create, having higher damage than most of the "stock" blades and high durability. This comes at the cost of Blade Length, having a mere 80 Blade Length. However, if you can aim your attacks well, this won't matter in the slightest.

The Nightmare Blade is best used on a character that can make use of it's high damage such as Conny or Erwin for Class Clown and Decisive Battle respectively I wouldn't expect it to last long in battle if you do dismember a Titan, however. It's low durability makes it break often.

The Unicorn Horn is a middle of the line Rapier being one of the more balanced Rapiers. It has high durability and sharpness making it amazing for farming materials with Christa in Attack Mode before you try True Attack Mode. Once you hop into True Attack mode, I'd recommend you get the Rozen Rapier ASAP due to it being a straight upgrade.

The Rozen Rapier is the most balanced Rapier, being a cheaper alternative to the Perfected Blade. You'll still get some use out of it and it won't break easily. It's also a very good blade for farming in True Attack Mode. Just be sure to use Christa and play carefully though.

Rapier VI is like the Unicorn Horn, however it trades some durability for enhanced Sharpness. Not much to say about it, really. It's a solid Blade for any difficulty.

Blades(Part 2)

The Perfected Blade

The Perfected Blade is the most balanced Blade you can get. Despite being called the "Perfected" Blade, it's Sharpness is lower than Cloud Zero Plus and Roteklinge. It's major upside to them is it's higher durability, making it perfect for a Relentless-based playstyle, making sure your foe can't strike back or for farming Titan Drops! It is, however, suitable for other playstyles, such as a Chain Attack Spam Levi playstyle or for playing as Mikasa spamming Quick Attacks, (Gas Boost/Dash + Attack). It's high durability means it's virtually indestructible when using a Quick Attack spamming Mikasa! It preforms well in a wide variety of situations, making it one of the best blades you could use! If you can't decide what Blade to use, the Perfected Blade will be there to fill any void!

Roteklinge

One of the sharpest and more expensive blades you can get would be the Roteklinge, The Knives have the lowest range at 60. So you'd best aim your attacks well before deciding to strike. It's durability is also very low. So unless you want materials, I wouldn't recommend attacking the body parts of a Titan with this blade. Sasha, Conny and Christa make good use of this blade. Conny especially due to Class Clown. Christa would have to be in Decisive Battle or have Duelist activated to make any sort of use of this blade though.
Blades(Part 3)

Cloud Zero Plus

Emperor Tiger Zero

Blade of the Cosmos

The defining features of the Katanas are their sky-high blade length and high sharpness. They're best used using a character that can refill the Decisive Battle Signal meter quickly like Christa and Erwin. Erwin especially benefits from these blades since Cloud Zero Plus has the highest sharpness in the game!

Each Katana is interchangeable, meaning that if you do well with one, you can do well with another. Cloud Zero Plus has the highest sharpness out of the 3 and the highest sharpness in the game at the cost of durability.
Emperor Tiger Zero is the most balanced of the 3, having good sharpness and good durability.
Blade of the Cosmos has the highest durability of the three but the lowest damage.

It's really up to you as to which Katana you want to use.
Scabbards(Preface)

All Scabbard's stats are automatically compared to the Rozen Wing.
Scabbards(Part 1)

Wing VI

Unicorn Crest III

Nightmare Sheath III

Rozen Wing

The Wings are very similar to the Rapiers, considering they are part of the same sets. I would consider the Nightmare Sheath to be the weakest of the four simply because Wing VI outclasses it in every regard except Blade Storage, where they all share 5. The Nightmare Sheath does look very nice though, so if you're willing to trade off some Gas Capacity and a little Gas Pressure, go for the Nightmare Wing. But as with the Nightmare Blade, be prepared to refuel a lot or spam Decisive Battle Signals.

Unicorn Crest III is the middle of the line, 800 Gas Capacity and Pressure makes it very good Scabbard. I would still replace it with the Rozen Wing or Wing VI ASAP.

The Rozen Wing is the most balanced of all four of the Wings, having 900 Gas Capacity and Pressure, it makes you fly fast and you can go for a while without refueling. It's great for a already fast character like Levi.

Wing VI is probably the best for mobility, it's low Gas Capacity may turn you off at first but then when you see it's Gas Pressure only 100 away from being tied with the Perfected Scabbard, you'd probably have a tough choice on your hands. 5 Blades is more than enough to kill any titan and the Gas Pressure makes it fly by fast. It's up to preference which Wing you'd pick though. They're very similar to the Katanas in a way. Each of them excelling in one stat or being balanced across the board.
Scabbards(Part 2)

The Perfected Scabbard

The Perfected Scabbard is one of the best Scabbards you could choose to bring. Having slightly worse than the best stats compared to the Warhorse Scabbards. But it can contain 3 Blades which gives it a nice advantage over the Warhorses. If you're looking for a extremely good Scabbard but don't care about style, then the Perfected Scabbard is the best for you.
Scabbards(Part 3)

Warhorse Zero

Wave Plus Zero

Scabbard of the Cosmos

It's the same situation with the Katanas, one of the trio excels in one stat but fails in another. In this case, Warhorse Zero is the most balanced of the 3 with high Gas Capacity and high Gas Pressure. It's a suitable choice if you have a durable blade or if you're playing as a character that makes very good use of Decisive Battle Signals such as Christa, Mikasa and Erwin.

Wave Plus Zero has the highest Gas Pressure of the three and in the game. It's Gas Capacity is lacking though. It's only 100 more than the Nightmare Sheath so if you decide to use this Scabbard, prepare to refuel often.

Scabbard of the Cosmos has the highest Gas Capacity and lowest Gas Pressure. If you're concerned with Gas Capacity and how long you can stay maneuvering, this is probably one of the best choices for you. Just take note of the 2 Blade refills.
3DM/ODM Gear(Preface)

All 3DM/ODM Gear's stats are automatically compared to the Camellia Zero Plus.
3DM/ODM Gear(Part 1)

Symbol VI

Nightmare Heart III

Unicorn Tail III

Rozen Crest

Symbol VI has very nice Anchor Range, Reel Speed and Anchor Strength, making it suitable for most gear setups! And arguably, better than the Rozen Crest! It's very nice in most situations and the Anchor Strength keeps is afloat for much longer than most of the Tails available.

Nightmare Heart III trades off some of the Anchor Strength for 100 more Reel Speed. It's, in my opinion, inferior to Symbol VI. But it still looks great. So if you want to look stylish while slaying any titan, this'll be a good choice.

Unicorn Tail III is a shorter ranged version of the Nightmare Heart, offering better Anchor Strength and faster Reel Speed at the cost of some Anchor Range. If you still want a powerful Symbol but don't like how weak Nightmare Heart's Anchors are, this'll be the Symbol for you.

The Rozen Crest has a little less Anchor Range than Symbol VI, but makes up for it with 200 more Reel Speed! Making it insanely fast! Combine it with a fast character like Levi or Mikasa, and a high Gas Pressure Scabbard and you'll be flying around maps and running circles around titans! But as it goes with the Rozen set, it's an expensive piece of equipment. I'd recommend using the Symbol VI before swapping to the Rozen Crest.
3DM/ODM Gear(Part 2)

The Perfected Gear

It has some of the best Anchor Strength you can get and some of the highest Reel Speed! This is offset by the low Anchor Range at base at a mere 80. You'll need to close the distance fast before you're able to hook onto a titan. It's still a very solid choice for any Soldier.
3DM/ODM Gear(Part 3)

Cheetah Tail Zero

Camellia Zero Plus

Gear of the Cosmos

Like the other Katana derivatives, each one excells in a particular stat but fails in another. Cheetah Tail Zero is the most balanced of the 3. Camellia Zero Plus has the fastest Reel Speed but low Anchor Range and Strength and Gear of the Cosmos has the highest Anchor Strength and Range. Fairly simple. But despite the simplicity, they'll still serve you good. Camellia Zero Plus in particular for having the highest Reel Speed in the game! It's 85 Anchor Range will bring you down a bit and you'll have to close the distance before any hooks can be shot at a Titan.
Ending

I hope you've enjoyed my failed attempt at helping people decide what equipment they should get. If I've missed anything or got a stat incorrect, correct me in the comments below. I'll also add player created sets if there's enough demand. That being said, have fun slaying titans!

I said I would have updated this over a month ago but I've kind of lost interest with this guide. If I can ever think of a good use for the Knife sets, I'll update this guide. I even have the heads ready. But I just don't see a reason to add them in. I also can't think of anything to say for the Anti-Hardening set or other sets I said I would add.
