There is no order in which you must complete the challenges and each challenge gives you a key. Find out which ones are easier and pick them first.
The legion area is beatable at all times as there is no random value to it. You just need to pick the right set of skills and the correct items and then assume correct strategy. The slime area has randomization and this is probably a flaw, but you can get it right after a few reloads. It sucks that the game forces you to watch the "GAME OVER" screen for several seconds each time you die but I learned to quick load quickly when I see that things are gonna end badly.
