Introduction
Hello!

Here I will show you the basics of getting into making custom maps for Rusted Warfare - RTS.
This involves using a programed called "Tiled" and I will not be going through that basic controls for that, I will leave links below to videos you can check to help with that!

Download
So first of all you're going to want to download the program to your PC from the website here:
http://www.mapeditor.org/

Once you've downloaded the program, extract/install anywhere and then start it up! ()
Open example map
For the sake of the basic guide we will be opening an example map that came with the game.

Navigate to your game folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rusted Warfare

Now open the 'mods' folder and then open up 'maps' and you will notice a buch of files.
To my understanding the most of these files are important assets and ready-made project setups for Tiled to recognise and make it easy to start editing for Rusted Warfare.

Files with the extension of ''.tmx' are your maps files which will be ready to launch in the game.

You can open the file by going into Tiled Editor, click File -> Open and in this example I will be opening '[p2]example_skirmish_(2p).tmx'

In the image above here are what the labeled parts are:
1): Layers - This is where you can set specific layers visible or not in order to easily edit certain aspects of the map, example: only see the map texture or edit spawn points.

2): Tiles - These are your textures basically and units/spawnpoints and recources will also be found here (dropdown arrow at the top-right)

3): Your map, this is what you see based on your selection of visible layers and where you will modify everything.
Placing units
In this example I will simply just add some units to my own team as pre-spawned.

So if you click on the top-right dropdown arrow at the tilesets and select 'units' you can start placing units, I suggest make make the layers invisilble other than 'set' and 'units' like so:

As you can see in the picture above I've found player 1's spawn point and builder spawn, you can identify these spawn points by the color and number, the tile with the number would be their command center.

So now I'm going to find a unit for Player 1 (which I should spawn with) and place it around my area.

Important!
When placing a unit make sure you have the unit layer SELECTED, that will ensure you are placing actual units, not textures (otherwise you get an empty tile error), same applies for placing textures, select Ground (I think) to place them.

You can of course add more teams from the unit section, hell even make armies prespawned and watch the action! You get the idea! Editing the map design is also fairly similiar, just hide units and items layers and select the textures you want to place.
Save map
Now to save our changes and test it out!

In the editor just go to File -> Export as... and create a name for the file and save in the same folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rusted Warfare\mods\maps

I will be naming mine as 'My First Map'.

So lets try out your new map in the game! Launch the game and go to Singleplayer -> Custom Maps, select your map and do necessary setting and voila!

Outro
I really hope this guide helped!

There will probably be changes to this guide once I learn more or I may even make an advanced guide and show how to make missions or explain the different types of tiles.

As there is no workshop at the time I created this guide I will try to update it once workshop comes out so you can share your work!

Hey if anybody figures out auto tiles let me know, I can place them but they don't seem to have collisions... (also Piskel is an online sprite editor that does a pretty good job and is quick to pick up
