Being a big fan of Rimworld and Odd Realm I thought I'd like Dwarf Fortress too. Big nope. Hoping for a refund.

Edit: Due to criticism of my very short review of Dwarf Fortress by someone who I won't mention and totally not Roosterboy, I will elaborate further...

As I like building games, I was hoping for a visually interesting game with visually interesting detail. However much depth DF has in lore or text detail, it is still basically an ascii game. And because of that does not transition well into anything more visually appealing. Even if it gets a graphics upgrade.

For example, stairs can be placed anywhere, even if they don't look like they work right, as the stairs graphic is essentially nothing more than an upgraded @ or whatever. The same for all furniture. Which is why it is not rotatable.

Fine if you're still thinking in ascii terms despite the graphics upgrade. But not what I was hoping for. It has changed from ascii, where your imagination fills in the blanks, to a bland, empty and uninteresting looking game because those blanks are now filled in for you. And there's really very little there.

@RoosterBoy - Please. All the positive reviews are useless memes and blog posts (re: lame stories of something only other DF hipsters would find interesting) about the game.

At least with this review, I can see the writer had expectations based on other games (that copied, and far surpassed DF in terms of playability and user-experience) that were not met.

Very descriptive review that very clearly demonstrates your problem with the game, thanks! :steammocking:
