At first, I was worried about how this DLC would go given Frontier's teasing of Megalodon (thinking it would be an out-of-place Cenozoic pack of some type and/or that it would spark a bunch of stupid and rabid fanfare over what essentially amounts to a giant fat shark). That said, I was actually surprised by how good the DLC's species additions are. They actually managed to not make the Megalodon look like an obese oversized great white shark unlike every other pop culture portrayal. Microceratus is finally, FINALLY, in the game after what seems like an eternity (seriously, what was wrong with putting it in the Malta Expansion which was the most logical place to put it?!). Segisaurus is a vanilla and relatively basic pick, but I suppose it does have film canon status technically, so it's fine I guess. Thanatosdrakon is the big surprise of the pack as when I first saw it I thought it was Hatzegopteryx surely. That said, it is a nice looking azhdarchid pterosaur to be sure. Props to Frontier for presenting us with a pterosaur I had actually never heard of before now.

Unfortunately, the game update this time around is incredibly weak to say the least. Just some placeable kelp (which does add a bit of environment to the lagoons) and lagoon spotlights that can now be used on land. That said, at least the DLC itself makes up for it. Overall, not a bad DLC to pick up.

That brings me to something of a bittersweet but necessary topic to discuss. This is more than likely the final DLC for JWE2. There's something about its name and time of release that just feels very final. Also, the fact Frontier has been contracted by Universal to make another Jurassic game, which is likely a Jurassic World Evolution 3 or whatever they're going to call it, has me and many others thinking that this is the last rodeo for JWE2.

Now, I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand, Jurassic World Evolution has been a very profitable and successful game series for Frontier. They'd be fools not to capitalize on that. Furthermore, it would give them a chance to finally abandon the PS4/Xbox One generation of consoles to the devil that possesses them in order to create a game which is not hindered by performance constraints and having to make concessions for obsolete consoles that simply cannot keep up. And as well, being able to add things the player base wants desperately to a new game is an enticing prospect. On the other hand, I cannot help but feel JWE2 is being abandoned too soon and that it still has a lot of potential that is yet unfulfilled. That and I can't help but feel that making a third game is getting more than a little greedy on Frontier's part. People are fed up with having to wait for sequels just to get things that should be easy to implement and not need a whole new game. And to be clear, I do not trust Frontier to deliver. They have a bad track record as it is of bad communication, question dodging, refusal to lay out concrete plans (roadmaps for post-launch support that is), and breaking promises.

The short version of that: This third game better be one hell of an improvement compared to both JWE1 and JWE2. If they screw up this time, that's it. Strike three, no coming back from that. So, while I'm not entirely happy about it and feeling like JWE2 is getting cut short like JWE1 did, I guess at least JWE2 had a longer run than JWE1. Also, even though I am personally giving Frontier the green light to make a third one so we can finally get away from the plague of last gen consoles holding everything back, I am making it very clear that this is their last chance to get it right, in my eyes and those of the community. Of course, when a third game does come to pass, I will be giving my brutally honest review of it as soon as it launches. And so, now we wait to see Frontier's next move...

Indeed. Koolasuchus, Beelzebufo, Prionosuchus, Ichthyostega, and others would be nice additions, especially if semi-aquatic gameplay and deep water for terrestrial enclosures is added.

Honestly, if they really made an third one, I wish they could add prehistoric amphibians to the mix too.

I mean, we now have Dimetrodon, Lystrosaurus and Dunkleosteus, in the game, now, so why not?
