As a Mafia 2 veteran with probably well over 4k hours(in a non-Steam version of it) I have to say that this remaster is really underwhelming in some respects. Yes, I got the Definitive edition for free, and I am grateful for that, what I am NOT OK with on the other hand is that other people who have not purchased the classic version of this game have to pay for a rushed, buggy and non-optimised remaster.
9 hours in this game and I have already noticed many props that haven't received a texture enhancement, then there's the mystery surrounding the clothing physics, the glitchy debris, flickering smoke and steam particles, FPS drops that seemingly have no source, which I'm not okay with either. Some people play for the visuals too, don't they? SO if you're gonna charge me 25GBP for this, at least give me something good? Not an unfinished product? In some cutscenes the NPC's view target is really off, even in the action game.
They added new sounds, which again, is really nice, but even with this there's some bugs. Taunt voice lines missing, in chapter Time Well Spent, when you get to the part where you go to the showers, you can't hear the prisoner who's singing anymore, but you can still hear the others throwing tantrum at him for his supposed terrible singing. Why though? Veterans know what I'm talking about here.

They done some touch ups to the game's radio soundtrack too, replaced some segments of news bulletins with newly recorded lines, but what for? They sound terrible, I know very well how the old bulletins used to sound like, the sound mix/effects were far more immersive and resembled the sound of an old 40's car radio far more accurately than the new ones, it just seems pointless to me. 2K, you had 10 years at your disposal to make this right, 10 years to think about the cut content. Please, if any of you from 2K read this review, please get your ♥♥♥♥ together and give us updates to this remaster, listen to your community. Do it right, what the hell.

Perfect boredom-killer. HARDLY BASED ON THE QUOTE: "Spray and pray". Seriously, this game has the most strange bullet spread mechanic I have ever seen, but it offers a hell of a fun time. It doesn't update anymore, hence it's taken over by community servers, some of them are good, some of them are not, but still, there are enough populated servers out there. Hackers? I think they lost interest hacking in DoD:S lol
To be honest, this game should be offered for free by now
I highly reccomend it to people that suffer of excessive boredom, cause oh boy, this game really grinds your gears
