This is something that makes the game unplayable. I had a $70 GPU that used to run this game at a constant 30-40 fps all areas on 1000 render distance and high pixels. Didn't play for a few updates and came back with a new GPU. The GTX 970. I really don't know what happened in the updates, but i can only run this game at 30 fps in areas with plenty of houses. (Cranberry, Rancho Taquita?, Pleasant Valley and some other smaller towns.) They need to work on optimization of this game before I consider playing this game again.
