In short: While the game has its flaws and bugs. It is often very engaging and fun. And the story is pretty well written.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a fun action RPG where you live in a post apocalyptic world ruled over by big animal-like machines. The idea is that you craft weapons, you kill machines with those weapons, and the machines then drop goodies that allow you to make even stronger weapons.

Most characters that you meet have an unique personality and have understandable motivations. Most questions you will come up with during your play through will be answered by the end. And these answers get pretty disturbing at times.

One thing I dislike however is the pathing mechanics specifically around climbing and take-downs. I do not know what went wrong in the development. But at times its pretty hard to see where you can, and cannot climb. To the extend I have been jumping against rocks way too many times. Sometimes the game has problems understanding which path you want to take, even though the path has been specifically crafted by the developers for the main story line. You do not want to know how many Aloy fell to her death because the game didn't register that I wanted to slide off a cable in my game.

There is also a lot of cheese possible in this game. Especially the stealth mechanics are incredibly bugged in the best ways. It can cause hilarious situations. The trip caster can also be abused very easily to cheese certain boss battles. I however, think this is great and love it. But I can imagine someone else not liking it.
