The Knight Witch is a 2d Bullethell Aquarivania about being chained down by societal pressures. PewPewPew'd my way through it in 16.2 hours. Difficulty is hard. Beat it using a game controller. I got this game on a humble bundle.

Gameplay: Reminiscent of the games 'Aquaria' and 'Song of the Deep', you flyfloat around - sometimes submarine around - the map shooting at random adversaries in one of eight areas. There are cards you collect that give you special abilities such as better spellfire, shields, explodybits, or some that amplify other cards. You can swap out and fine tune the cards you want to use in the save beacons.

Story: Easy to follow, has twists, short, sometimes deep. Has likeable, cute characters in it.

Controls: The cards are set to X, Y, and B on the xbox controller. A is for talking, R is for shooting, dash (when you get it) is L, and there are LT and RT abilities you get on the way. 'Start' selects the menu, and Left on the D-pad opens the map.

Music: It's great with a Celtic flair about it. Feels like a violin, flute, and lute made friends and go on an adventure together. Recommend owning it.

Graphics: Also great and polished. I love the look of Rayne. Everything is smooth, it's easy to tell levels apart, all the npcs are easy to tell apart. Only quip is the differing color of the enemy bullets can make it hard to tell what's friendly and not friendly fire in the thick of things.

Dog: You can pet the dog.

Difficulty: It spikes weirdly. Really weirdly. If there was one thing I wish the developers would fine tune, it'd be either how many/fast the bullets from some enemies are or the ambushes. The ambushes can be daaang hard sometimes. Way harder than the bosses, who seem straight-forward in comparison. Except for Hextinction, who is impossibly far too hard for normal gamers. If you have trouble, there is an option on the menu for various cheats you can toggle on and off (need to look at the community guides for the cheat codes to unlock each one, which is weird to me.)

Endings: There are 3. Bad, Good, and True. I've gotten good and true, and have no interest in getting bad because I don't think Rayne deserves it.

Backtracking: Other reviews say there isn't any backtracking, but I backtracked the crap out of this game. Really wish the game introduced an easier way to get around far sooner than it does.

** Epilepsy Warning **: I wouldn't. Lots of flashies and bullets. None of the flashies I came across were terrible outside of Hextinction, but I have a feeling it'd sneak up on you in unfun ways.

Thoughts: I'm a pretty good 2d 'Metroidvania' gamer. I've beaten HellTemple on HardMode in LaMulana. I had trouble on The Knight Witch until I Got Gud, and even after getting gud, I couldn't beat the final boss without cheating. The difficulty spikes are weird, unlike other bullethell games the enemy fire can be unpredictable. Lots of people had issues sorting out the cards and using them because you have to look up at the corner of the screen to see which cards are out, but it didn't hinder me too badly. In fact, I enjoyed the crap out of this game until the end, when I got stuck in a death loop with the slog known as Hextinction for 3+ hours trying to beat the game without cheating until it became royally unfun. That is the least rewarding boss I've come across in a while and it seriously needs to be neutered on difficulty. Weirdly I liked the normal ending and freaking Hated the true ending, which didn't seem to have much thought put into it.

Tips for playing:

- Level up your strength before your magic early on.

- It is easier to hold down R for endless shooting and letting it auto aim than manually aiming with the joystick. On the flip side, if you're chased by monsters and trying to get out of a room, manually aim at the doorway to open it because auto aiming wont help you there.

- Roughly 1/3rd of ambush areas lead to optional things like powerups, trapped people, and cards. If the ambush comes across as unfun or too hard, look for other areas to go. On the way you'll gradually get better with spells/shooting/farming mana or you'll find easier-to-attain spell cards and the ambush raid might not seem so hard next time. The same goes for 'puzzle' areas that seem impossible or too hard.

- Focus on Rayne and dodging in heavier bullet moments and let auto-shoot and random spells do the rest.

- I used the cheats 'endless mana' and 'slower bullets' to beat Hextinction while keeping it fair.

Virtual Cottage is a bitmining app for focusing. It's not a game, so no difficulty.

There's no gameplay involved. Just a pixelplace of a LoFi girl with lofi playing. You can select how long you want to study for and if it rings to tell you when you're done, otherwise a message will pop up letting you know. The app will continue onward forever without stopping even if the 'the time is done' message plays or the bell rings.

There are various ambiances to be had. You can toggle fire, wind, blizzard, and tstorm. When I restarted the game, it remembered my toggles but moving the slider gave a mixed result. It made it louder while sliding the wrong way, and when I got the game to figure itself out, it was 50/50 on if the fireplace or window changed or got stuck in one way no matter which way I slid it.

Keeping it running for a few hundred hours will net you all the achievements.

Minimizing the window made the game run way too hard in a bit/cryptomining sort of sus way. That's probably why it's free. Keeping it open at all times on the desktop was fine. Making the window fullscreen was fine. Found this out when I minimized it to work on a program.

I'm on the fence on giving this a thumbs up or down. Everyone is giving it a thumbs up, so here's some spice to the review pool. It's harmless unless you minimize/hide the window. The music doesn't stop even when the time runs out, so unless you pay attention to the screen or select the bell it doesn't make a good timer. And even with the bell selected, it can sometimes be hidden in the lofi music. Speaking of the music, there isn't much of a selection and some of the songs have words. Couldn't find a way to select songs individually and there's no way to upload your own soundtrack to it. You can't customize lofi chick's room whatsoever. Thumbs downing because it's pretty useless to me as a timer, I can get ambiance off youtube, my phone, or my white noise machine, and it's an app and not a game.

"Why don't you come to the planetarium? The beautiful twinkling of eternity that will never fade, no matter what-"

Oh wait. Wrong game.

A Sky Full of Stars is a coming-of-age Visual Novel about three students and their love of tiny sky dots. Difficulty is NA, played using a mouse and Enter on the keyboard. Got through Hikari's route in around 15 hours taking my time. Played without having played 'If My Heart Had Wings". This version is AllAges and has been censored.

Gameplay amounts to hitting Enter endlessly and saving as you go. This game has many, many save slots.

There are a handful of choices throughout. Earlier ones designate which of 2 story routes you take and which girl you want, and later ones relate to 'getting the girl'. It doesn't readily tell you this, and I cheesed with a guide early on to end up with Hikari because who has time for that. If you hate guides, there is an option in the lower left corner to revert to earlier choices. I only played Hiraki's route, but I have a strong feeling that Hikari and Saya have the strongest ones.

Art on this game is great. The places give a solid ambiance, and the characters look fab and full of emotion.

Game has a puppy.

Story was OK. Enjoyment really depends on how much you like stars. That said, all the characters are cute. And the story does not stray too far from its constellation obsession. You will learn more about telescopes than you intend to.

Romance... I imagine it'd be better for Saya =P. I don't know, it was really hard to like Hikari during the romance part of her route. It's the most uncomfortable I've felt in a VN trying to date someone. But the drama is right there in your face. It's so full of feels that I couldn't just... Choose... another route. I'd need to recover first.

Music is worth getting. Top tier. I love 98% of it. Except for 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' on repeat, which made me want to flood a town and displace all its occupants.

Overall it's an average, solid, coming-of-age VN. The story stays faithful to the stars, there's some drama in there, there's some romance. It's very low key. Frown on the weird censoring. The romancing part was a little uncomfortable. I'll try and pick it up later to go through the other routes, but there's no real urge to.

I Commissioned some invisible people 0 is a free pixel-hunt game where the creator had a grudge against reviewers who said the games in the series were too easy. Difficulty is medium. Beat it in 40ish minutes using the mouse and a few hints.

Unlike the other games in the series, this one is pretty much a clickfest hide-and-seek. If you scroll in and squint you can kind of see the outlines of the people 1/2 of the time. H is for hint. You're going to need it, because some of the people are tiny.

The music is lullaby style piano. The art is good. It's free. There are 5 levels.

Giving this a thumbs down because there's no real direction on how to find the invisible people, leaving you clicking mindlessly and using hints. I did beat it, and would have given this a meh rating, but there's enough I don't like.

This is my least favorite of the 'I commissioned' series. I play these games because they're straightforward. Usually the point is to find the drawing of the bee, or cat, or whathaveyou that's cleverly stashed Where's Waldo style within the detailed art. This game you don't have that. The people are, as the title says, invisible. When you click on them they POOF! into existence with children's laughter and that sometimes startled me for some reason. Other times the people were positively tiny and didn't have a noticeable outline, so I was forced to lean more heavily on Hints, which you have an unlimited amount of. The way this plays out is more wild clicking and chance than observation skills, and in the end it made my eyes hurt.

MewMew - PewPew is a bullet-hell shooter. Played a decent 10 or so minutes using a keyboard.

You've officially met the bottom of the barrel.

Run in circles, shoot damage-spongey dinos, level up, repeat.

Get out of the kiddie pool and go play Vampire Survivor.

Gearbits: Gear Angels is a classic 2d shooter. Beat the game first time around in 25 minutes using a game controller.

For a free game, this one is good. It has an easy and hard mode, and there are three levels total to pewpewpew through. Achievements encourage you to replay as all three characters and the boss designs are pretty cool. Music is flaming guitars of excellence.

Otherwise, Gearbits: Gear Angels is colorful, energetic, and a blast to shoot your way to the end of.

Epilepsy Warning: Lots of flashing lights.

100 Robo Cats is a cat-finding game. Beat it in 3 minutes using a mouse.

Game's got robo cats amongst robots.

Not my favorite of the 100 cat games. The artwork feels sloppy this time around.

Did like that the cats were also robo.

Fastest I've found cats in a game. Had to keep the game open for a few more minutes so I could leave this review.

Sheepy: A Short Adventure is a 2d platformer about a sheep stuffy going places sheep stuffies have no business being. Beat it first time around in 66 minutes using a game controller.

This game has no business being free. The developers should really add a 'support the developers' option with a Sheepy desktop wallpaper or something so everyone can support them.

The graphics are high end, the scenery is deeply dystopia and dark, and the music hits hard. A friend recommended this to me and I'm so glad I played it because steam needs more games like this. It's got a HollowKnight and Ori vibe about it except Sheepy has no weapons to call their own. The boss battles can be really hard.

The one thing I wish could be improved upon is the power ups only have keyboard support buttons on the screen, causing me to guess and check which buttons corresponded on controller. The last powerup requires jumping while pressing a button and the game doesn't exactly tell me this.

Sheepy: ASA was worth the time to play. I'm going to go back and find the stuff I missed.

Sheepy is a simple 2d platformer about Sheepy finding his flock and collecting rainbows along the way. Beat it and 100%ed achievements in about 20 minutes using a game controller.

This game has student programmer vibes all over it.

It's short, sporting 2 levels and 4 easy-to-attain achievements.

It's simple. You guide Sheepy to the right and find all the rainbows on your way.

Sheepy comes pre-equipped with double jump and death loogies.

There isn't much else. But it is Freeeee..........!

I recommend this lightly if you want to kill time and have nothing better to do. But there isn't much there in terms of game. I loosely enjoyed what I played.
