In Harold Ramis' film Groundhog day, the character Phil Connors undergoes a major transformation through his experience in a time warp, where he repeatedly lives the same day, waking up to the same song on the radio, in the exact same position regardless of the state of his being the day prior. As the story progresses, Phil evolves from being selfish and cynical to being compassionate and enlightened. As the movie progresses, Phil turns into a better version of himself through his experience with the five stages of grief.

Initial State: At the beginning of the film, Phil Connors is portrayed as a jaded and arrogant weather forecaster. He is self-obsessed, has no compassion for others, and is disillusioned with his life. At first, Phil believed that covering the yearly Groundhog day story was a detriment to his career, as he believed he was overqualified for the task. He despises those around him and uses the time warp dilemma to exploit the situation for his own personal gain.
