What an adventure Subnautica is, I mean wow, this game is absolutely fantastic. When I started the campaign at a total disadvantage, I couldn’t have imagined how I could progress but you do and the acquisition of power is so well implemented. Subnautica is terrifying maybe because the ocean in general is a terrifying thing but the developers also did a great job in taking advantage of this fact. As the underwater creatures and environments are designed to a genius level in order to mess with your head.

That's the special thing about Subnautica, how it made me feel, I experienced a lot of fear playing this game for sure. However I also felt helpless, curious, excited, and even sad throughout my play through. It’s the quality of the design in this game that leads to some serious levels of immersion. I mean this game stands out as being uniquely memorable for me. The developers are very talented and they did a fantastic job here.

The world of Subnautica has a lot of character and everything you do really feels like a big deal. Maybe it’s the Survival genre in general that creates this high level of immersion because you start off feeling helpless and then gradually feel more capable as you progress. However Subnautica handles this progression perfectly and balances your new abilities with in game challenges that make sense within the world. While also playing with your levels of fear with the design of the creatures and environments that you need to explore.

There is a cool story here too which you discover by overcoming those fears and pushing on into some genuinely scary places. I also felt a genuine sense of curiosity growing as I stumbled across some unexpected story elements. Even though I needed to use Google for help later in the game, it is way better to know as little as possible when starting to play Subnautica. As you will find things, really cool things in fact by following the main campaign elements or even just by exploring around randomly.

As I got closer to the ending, I was facing a big, dangerous mission in order to conclude the story. I was genuinely feeling nervous while preparing for this mission. The mission itself was totally immersive and satisfying to play through even if I did barely make it back alive. Then when I was about to complete the game I felt excited to see what was going to happen. While I also felt sad to leave this world and spent some time to take one last look around the environment which had actually started to feel like a real place.

Subnautica is an amazing game and the developers are very well suited to the Survival genre. They created something really special here and it’s one of the best games that I’ve ever played.
