I figure with the 5 year anniversary of Holdfast that I drop a review in to celebrate!

I remember back in 2018 I bought this game after seeing a soviet womble video and seeing how silly the game was. Took a dive head first into this game and I was instantly hooked. The public server are an absolute blast and the people there are just having a grand ole time. I didn't even know ♥♥♥♥ about the Napoleonic era and that's perfectly fine. Most people didn't buy Holdfast for the history. They bought it for the memes. I then stumble upon a linebattle server and that's when my life completely changed. Literally...

I jump on EU8 as a public player not knowing any of the rules and just seeing a game of snake play out in front of my eyes. I was slayed for fol (cus I didn't know the rules lol) and was very clueless on what was going on. I eventually understood and ran around with random lines making silly comments and loud noises. The event is over and I stumble upon a man named Daz. Some of you may know him some maybe not but regardless he brought me into his community, The 8th Life Regiment, and showed me the holdfast community. I had no clue there was an entire backbone of communities that play this game almost religiously. Idk why but I got so hooked to not only the 8thLR but the idea that there are these vast organized communities out there playing in public and private events. I have never seen something like this before. Especially since it was so tight knit and everyone was super friendly.

With the community being so great. I wanted to help out. I started helping out with admining the public linebattles and even hosted a NA public linebattle (if you remember the hosted by Big Mamba events then you know) back in the days when AGS didn't have a NA linebattle server. I got to interact with the developers more and I do gotta say, Refleax and his team are some of the nicest people you will met. I've had nothing but great interaction with the AGS crew and have always been super helpful with any questions I had. This is a lot of the reason why the Holdfast community is so good and gets people hooked.

Now to why Holdfast was so life changing for me. I'll start with the community side of things. Holdfast allowed me to become a better leader and help grow me as a person I am today. I also made a lot of friends from this game and always had my back. I have to thank Daz and the 8thLR for giving me the opportunity to lead the community and provide the support I needed when times were hard for me. I also gotta thank the entire holdfast community for all the great time, events, and fun you guys provide as well as how helpful you are for creating a safe space for everyone playing. If it wasn't for the HF community, then idk what I would be doing.

Now to AGS I want to thank them for all the hard work they and for creating an amazing game and community for all to enjoy. They've help me a ton with server questions I have and are super helpful in general. They are always willing to talk and are some of the friendliest developers you will met. They've also put a lot of trust on me to manage the AGS Public Linebattle events and the admin team within. Without their involvement in the community, I don't think I would of continued playing this game.

Now to the business side of things. Me and my mate actually started a server hosting company because of Holdfast. At the time there wasn't any great options for Holdfast servers. My mate and I decided to take a stab and see if there was interest in the community for a different provider. Also we were both running private events in our respective regiments and were dealing with lag issues from a provider we were using at the time. Our company has grown to one of the largest Holdfast server providers. I got to thank AGS for being so willing to help out with any technical questions and I got to thank the Holdfast community in taking a chance in me and being so helpful. Without this community, the company would have just been a small little project.

Would I recommend this game? 100% yes if you are debating to buy this game or are looking at reviews here you should just buy it. You will have endless amount of fun as well as being part of a strong and growing community with more and more new content coming out. If you are buying the game make sure you join the Holdfast Discord. I highly recommend it if you want to find a regiment to join as well as interact with the developers.
