If I had to describe this game very briefly and directly I would say this is a META-GAME as far as adventure games are concerned. This is the game Ron Gilbert made to TALK about adventure games and the game development process itself. He accomplishes this by including in-jokes , self-references to other adventure games like Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, specially Sierra games (where you could actually DIE in game and had to restore from a SAVED GAME) and adventure game development decisions which to me was quite interesting to get to know his insights and thoughts about the industry. This game is a big statement in that sense.

The MUSIC is incredible and quite memorable, a mix of suspense, tension, epicness and mystery.

The PIXEL ART is so well made that it will make you drool because it's a combination of the old-school style of games like Monkey Island or Loom but they add modern visual effects such as ambient lighting, reflection, multiple-layering and more.

Maybe the most controversial thing about this particular game is the DIFFICULTY and the exponential growth of the world and its possibilities. This game is HARD (if you play on Hard difficulty, go figure, there's always Casual Mode), real hard if you don't have much experience with adventure games in general (Having played Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island or even Day of the Tentacle WILL help you).
Even though a HINT system (which I didn't want to use for it to be more challenging) is included in the game where you can dial a phone number to get contextual hints about your current state in the game, it will be quite challenging at times and you could get stuck for a couple of hours trying to figure out what to do with your soggy blood paper that doesn't want to go in the BloodTron 3000 or some other semi-random item combination that will unlock one or more puzzles you're currently working on.
At the most challenging moment in the game you will have to handle 5 characters at the same time with their inventories and have access to more than 8 locations within Thimbleweed Park's world. It's still doable but you'll need a lot of patience to endure and go past those moments.

Having said that, this is a MUST play for ANY adventure game fan and even if you're not one, you will definitely enjoy your time in Thimbleweed Park.
