Ok so hear me out; the Brass Beast is actually the best heavy weapon and the greatest weapon in the game. It has 20% more damage dealt, which means, you can kill every player on close range much faster and take less damage. Speaking of damage, you also have 20% DAMAGE RESISTENCE! Without a medic, you can survive 3 headshots as long as you're still shooting; and if you have a medic, that goes up to 5, giving you enough time to tap fire the enemy sniper into ragequit. The Brass Beast goes well in every game mode; Attacking PL? Hop on the cart and never stop shooting, the cart will heal you and resupply your bullets making you an invincible train. Defending PL? Sit on a corner close to ammo/health and wait until some idiots try an average push, it can be only countered if you're dealing with Brazilian players (They know what happened in Monte Castello).
In the end, doesn't matter what your mentor says; keep using the big gun and shinning your way to the top, king.
