I've been playing the X games series long before there was such a thing as Steam. Being an old fart, I know what I like and don't like. My games list is now honed down to a few classics (Stalker,Skyrim/Oblivion, Fallout, X Universe, Total War). I've put in literally hundreds of hours on each of these games and will continue to do so until somebody can manage to create something as good or better; which I very much doubt. This to me is the very heart of the matter......can you keep coming back to a game and carry on playing and enjoying it two years after you bought it......you can see the old fart perspective kicking in here !

For me,the X Universe series comes into that catagory with Albion Prelude being the apex of Egosoft's acheivements. Albion Prelude is, to my mind, what X3 reunion should have been when it first came out. Albion Prelude is everything I ever expected from a space-sim, sandbox scenario game. If ever there was a game in a genre that stands out as a benchmark for any future games then Albion Prelude has got to be it. Wether your like combat one on one, fast and furious or huge campaign battle fleets, management, exploration, wheeler dealing, empire building, mega missions or personalised mini missions........this game has got it all. From tiny little zippy ships to huge warehouse freighters this game has all the ships and variants thereof you could ever image....and if you happen to be one of those picky types that can't find anything that suits them then there's a plethora of scripts and mods for ships to have alook through.....there's even a ship creator mod somewhere. Do I recommend it......'Crikey Moses'; totally........if you like space sims then you'll love X3AP.....and what's more you'll still be playing it when all those other games you spent dosh on have been deleted due to bordom. There's also loads of support from a huge Steam fan base whom often help with advise on missions that you get stuck on or how to accomplish a certain plan that seems impossible to accomplish......loads of good ideas and stratergies to share. It's a massive, massive gaming scenario so I recommend some of the fan based written guides like Rougey's.

My last comment is less of a revue for Albion Prelude and more of a plee for X-Rebirth. If anybody from Egosoft ever reads this revue please remember that we, your game fans and customer base would really like you to get X-Rebirth sorted out. We love your work when you get it right. There's a cornecopia of talent amoungst your customers ( as proved by all the excellent high class mods and scripts written by them for your previous games) who'd be only too willing to help you sort out all the bugs, frame rate problems, half written scripts, AI and trading issues, etc. Honestly, we want nothing more than to spend our dosh on your product but it must be at least as good as X3AP, if not better. Personally, I've gagging to buy it but the revues are soooo bad I've been put off. For now though, I'm very happy with X3 AP until you sort Rebirth out.
