I have about 100 hours playtime between DoW II, Chaos Rising, and Retribution, and I definitely recommend it to people who enjoy RTS games with a lot of RPG flavor.

The single player campaign is a lot of fun, and the RPG elements of customizing your characters with stats and loadouts allows players to try a variety of different builds. For example, I made an all-ranged commander for my first campaign playthrough, but switched to a melee focused one for my Primarch difficulty run.

I played multiplayer a couple of times, and the one thing that I love is that you don't have to worry about building bases or micro-ing a bunch of workers. Instead, you get to focus on controlling your units in combat against your enemy. You build troops and vehicles by capturing and holding objectives, so people who don't enjoy the economy aspects of games like Starcraft would enjoy this take on the RTS format.

Finally, the highlight of this game is definitely the Last Stand game mode. Basically, you select your champion from a variety of the Warhammer 40,000 races, such as the Space Marine Captain or Ork Mek, and then try to survivie while wave after wave of more difficult enemies swamps you in an arena. Depending on how well you and your two teammates do, you'll earn experience that unlocks new wargear and abilities, which lets you construct dozens of different builds for each champion. I loved it so much I downloaded the $10 Tau Commander DLC, and that was actually the first character I beat the mode with.

I can't recommend this game enough. 10/10. Milk for the Khorne Flakes.
