Solution to throwing issue in Half Life Alyx:

- open SteamVR Overlay (menu button on right controller)
- go to Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR settings
- disable "enable hand poses for controllers" under Developer section

Throwing works perfectly now! Overhead, underhand, flicking - all perfect.
Can't believe I got so far into HL Alyx with throwing not working correctly.
