I'm going to start out by saying everything in this game works fine as far as mechanics, save for a few bad hit detection issues when jumping on enemies. Jumping on enemies in this game is unneccesary though, as you can just avoid them for the most part. Here's my issue: although mechanically sound, this is possibly the most boring and generic platformer I have played.

For example, in a level you will need to collect all the diamonds. So you collect all the diamonds which opens an exit portal and you go through to end the level. Now the next level you need to collect all the treasure chests and go through the exit portal to end the level. Finally, in some levels, you need to collect all the coins, diamonds, and treasure chests to exit the level. It's all the same. There's no difference in what you're collecting or doing really besides the items looking different. The only levels that have a different theme seem to be ones where you need to collect lit bombs in a certain amount of time before they explode, but still, it's just collecting with a shorter time limit tacked on.

The levels here are, in my opinion, forgettable. The graphics are decent, but do I ever want to replay a level because it was fun? No, not really. The incentive seems to be to get a better rating in each level. This is difficult for me because I do enjoy trying to get the best rating I can in each level in most games. This game doesn't entice me in the least to do so.

The reward for getting a good rating in each level is working toward unlocking extra characters. Each character has a slightly different mechanic they bring to the table, but the original character will point you toward the exit gate, which can be a pain to find in larger levels so I stick with the default anyway.

If you can get this in a bundle with a few other games you want, that's fine. Then you can try it out on the cheap. I would not recommend paying full price here for what you are getting. It's marketed as a nostalgic platformer with updated graphics, but there needed to be something different here to make it worth buying. This type of game has been done to death and people have moved on because of new and innovative ideas in the platforming genre. There is nothing new here, no reason to keep playing past the first couple levels, as all this game has to offer is shown to you early on and builds toward nothing.

For number rating people, 5/10- It's a mostly mechanically sound collectathon that isn't all that fun. You're not missing out if you never play it.
