This was a relatively recent acquisition and it promised a horror game experience without jumpscares. It delivers, actually, and it does it pretty well. I think this game is more along the lines of a "walking simulator" than anything else so i'm predisposed to rolling my eyes at it, but it has great style with some interesting writing that make it worth playing if you can find it cheap.

I don't think it's particularly scary, since the primary tension of the game comes from awkward stealth sections with no real established rules for the player to follow. So you get spotted, you run, repeat a few times until you realize that your pursuers are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiots who pose no particular threat to you. Now, I honestly think that this could be explained away by saying that these underlings are kind of supposed to be stupid. (It just occurred to me that they remind me of "the twins" from the movie "Nothing but Trouble" and the entire setting of this game vaguely recalls that as well - with pretty clear allusions to Alice in Wonderland mixed in. A strange place to draw inspiration from, but i like it actually.)

In my opinion, this is the direction that the horror game should try to head in instead of a parade of endless games where you crawl through dark corridors with a flashlight and then hey jumpscares jumpscares jumpscares. Those Slenderman games were one of the worst things to happen to the horror game genre. In contrast, Albino Lullaby has a soul and a unique identity. It's not especially scary, but it's at least interesting to play because you really don't know what to expect from it. I guess the biggest beef I have with it is that it's "episodic" which carries some negative connotations in my mind because THANKS VALVE THANKS

White Town will go down as being the greatest band in the history of adjoining realities. For there is only the 1, multiplied by the sound and color of the nexus. And life is the side reality, angered by the temporal rift in the association.
