So many possibilities. Do you want to take your home country and rule the world? You can do that.
Do you just want to defend at home and colonise the New World? You can do that.
Do you want to be in the New World, kick out the colonisers then raze their country to the ground? You can do that.
How about a Japanese Emperor, but it's the Holy Roman version?. Give Cornwall the Chinese Mandate of Heaven? Reform the Mongol Horde and take over....well everywhere this time? What about Maori's taking over Europe in more than just Rugby? How about..you get the picture. All this and more can be yours to complete while playing this game. Fantastic fun.

If you are completely new to the game, be aware that there are frequent sales for this and other Paradox titles, never pay full price for the game - it can run into some serious money!

Still playing this after so many years, I could never get into the '1 army per resource' of Civ 5 so stayed with Civ4 which has a vibrant Mod scene.
