This game scratched the MMORPG itch I had since I stopped playing UO almost 2 decades ago. It's not massively multiplayer but it's just like playing PVE with a guild. The skill progression is very similar, use it and you get better at it.

There are a few minor annoyances when it comes to building your house, some technical and some design decision that make it so you have to build forward outposts or move closer to resources but overall I was quite pleased with the experience.

I do wish they added more content over the housing updates.

It is what it is... just like wall street, there's a pattern to the madness, good luck finding it.

- The Good -

I'm a fan of Arkane's games, I grew up playing the games that inspired them, I respect their gaming influences. I wasn't too hot to this game because of the branding put on it by bethesda but I was looking for a system shock 2 sequel so I decided to pull the trigger and get this game.

I played my first hour of the game during the free weekend, my first impressions were mixed, I loved the setting and futurist art deco aesthetics. What I didn't like were the first enemies you encounter, the mimics are shapeshifting crab-like enemies that hide in plain sight... that part really bugged me, I didn't feel like playing a game of prop hunt over the duration of the game.

When I finally got to the meat of the game and the enemies became more varied my initial fears were put at rest. What we have here is a spiritual successor to System Shock 2, if you were looking for a game to fill that void then this is the game for you.

- The Bad -

The game is still full of bugs, make sure you save often and not simply using the quick save system.

Overgrowth was technically impressive 9 years ago, Why it took so long to complete is beyond comprehension. I can only hypothesize that wolfire games had lost interest in development, sadly this seems to have happened 5 years ago.

If you followed the development of the game you would get updates about the game's engine, while not incidental, a game's greatness is not solely dependent on it's engine. We never actually got to see any of the meatier parts of the game's content.

It was clear that Wolfire games had no intention to actually put resources into making this a good game, most of the development was done by a single person and later replaced by another person while another person made the art and audio. You would think that with the money wolfire amassed from the humble bundle that you would see the game's development progress much faster than this.

Alas, this game was more of a side project by Wolfire Games, Let this be a warning to you, if Wolfire Games announces a new game, be wary of their past development practices.

now, on to the actual game, I have to admit that I didn't think Lugaru was that great a game, I don't agree with a lot of Wolfire Games design decision, while some people may enjoy the experience, I wasn't one of them. While I like to support indie developers for their efforts I don't believe Wolfire Games made much of an effort.

This is certainly a fun game, if you are looking for a game in the metroidvania style you should enjoy this one.

While I enjoyed the game it has it's share of problems.First there are frequent slowdowns, which shouldn't happen with a 2d game running on a modern computer. Second the difficulty curve could use some tuning, it goes from fairly easy to much harder by the last level, it's a rather abrupt change.

Another minor issue that I remedied rather quickly is that by default the analog stick on my xbox 360 controller would 'freeplay' and trigger movement, I could have adjusted the dead zone but I simply switched to the d-pad in the options

It's a solid entry in the genre, the gameplay itself is solid and quite addictive.

It's a good game but there's a few problems that keep me from calling it a great game. It's mostly nitpicking but I can't ignore these annoyances.

- The menu control is WASD based, while you would logically try to use the arrows keys and enter, those don't work, I feel like W/S and Space in a menu doesn't make sense. Just the fact that they have to tell you to use the W/S keys on the title screen is fact that it's not a control scheme that makes sense

- The music doesn't loop properly, this is just annoying when you hear the song start and end during a level.

- Once in a while I'll start a game and start in a dungeon that is absolutely too dark to see the art or even enjoy, I usually hit quick restart until I get a dungeon I can see in.

- The crafting menu is absolutely horrible, it's so convoluted and seems tacked on.

10 years later this game is just as fun and most people seem to think so.

The only negative reviews, besides those caused by some technical issues, which haven't affected me at all, are from butthurt players whose builds were affected by much needed balance changes.

You might be forgiven for thinking this is a Heartstone clone.. There's some obvious comparisons to be made but I assure you the game is completely different.

Heartstone laid the foundation for a successful Freemium game, Chronicle : Runescape legends takes a few monetization cues from heartstone, some of the surrounding mechanics were clearly inspired by Heartstone but that is just because they work and aren't exploitative like most F2P Freemium games.

The gameplay is quite original, your Legend will walk through a series of 4 'checkpoints' through 5 chapters. Each checkpoint will hold a card from your hand, if you so choose, after laying out the 'story' for the chapter you will encounter the cards you laid out.. depending on the card that was laid down you will either battle a monster and gain gold, armour, health or a weapon and trigger a specific effect.. with that gold you can then trigger effects for subsequent equipment or ally cards.. to boost attack, recover health or damage your opponent.

at the end of the 5th chapter if both legends are still standing they will battle off, this battle is automated and last until either legend dies.

The game doesn't feel too grindy and is quite balanced.. you might think some legends are stronger than others and while I did believe Linza was unbalanced after playing for a few more hours I experienced some really powerful card combos from other legends..

all in all, this is a great example of a Freemium card game.
