It is mechanically okay - a bit simple at times and is clearly missing some of the details and features seen in older Homeworld titles, but overall I can't say I'm entirely dissatisfied with the gameplay, though it could be significantly improved upon. The graphics look good for the most part, and the audio is also fine though the mixing of i.e weapon SFX and chatter could be better though again, it is fine. Ruskay delivers a befitting Homeworld soundtrack though while I can normally remember certain old tracks well, none of the new ones are as memorable. Good and befitting to the setting, yes! But not nearly as memorable as the tracks of yore.

The issue is the story and the writing at large. It reeks of a highly mediocre YA novel mixed with modern Marvel-slop dialogue. The cinematics are a complete joke and it feels like someone at BBI wanted to intentionally sabotage the game because at no point can I imagine anyone actually thinking that this is a good story, or that the cutscenes are even remotely passable for a game like this. I don't want to go into spoilers, but it is an enormously disappointing experience to be given.. this as a sequel, some 20-ish years later. If you want a good Homeworld experience, stick with 1, Cataclysm and Deserts of Kharak. 2 is.. okay, but not nearly as good as the rest and DoK has its flaws as well but still quite fun overall.

BBI not only hurt their fans with this disappointing installment - but also themselves and I daresay moreso them than us.

A highly enjoyable co-op game which has that unique 'oomph' to it while playing with friends. It stands out in a sea of co-op shooting games.

I finished the whole game without touching combat. I talked my way out of every situation bar a select few, whereupon twice I ran away and the third time I let some guys fight while I watched. And I snuck a few times, but 95% of the time I just talked. It was like playing a glorified visual novel. But you know what? I don't mind that.

A pure charisma build worked for once in an RPG. 10/10
