Early Access Review
With elements from rogue-lite, platforming, deathruns and a bit of parkour, Phantom Abyss creates a fresh gameplay with the use of 1st person camera, and puts you on the shoes of a whip wielding explorer as you run your way through trap ridden tombs in what feels like a 3D Temple Run. Watch as other people's phantoms run ahead giving you hints in where to go for hidden treasures and die in traps just so you don't. Progress enough and you get a chance to claim a Relic and get out, sealing the tomb forever, or delve deeper into other Biomes and try your luck at a chance of better Whips. (which you buy when you return from a run)
While the game content right now is certainly not that much, the core gameplay loop is fun and keeps you entertained, and will many times get your palms sweaty as you try to end a run with half a heart left.
Given the game is in early access, it has immense potential and I can think of hundreds of ideas that can easily be implemented to keep the gameplay feeling new for a long time, and the dev team is invested and listens to feedback. I'm eager for future updates on this and they plan on integrating real multiplayer (not just ghost recordings) so that will be fun.. :)
