Fantasy General II is a tactical turn-based strategy game with a fantasy theme. The first Fantasy General was published in 1996, and there's finally a sequel. The short version is that I really love this game. I love the story along with the battles. If you enjoy tactical turn-based strategy games, this is definitely something you want to try.

The game has a small tutorial in the first campaign mission thta will help you with learning some basics for the game. It's mostly reading, and not interactive. For newcomers to this game, it would be better to have an interactive tutorial instead. Luckily the overall game is not too difficult to understand.

There are 4 difficult levels, along with 2 campaign modes and a skirmish mode.

In the campaign mode, you will have to win each mission to proceed. The game links the missions together with a story. Sometimes you have to make meaningful choices with consequences, like in the choose your own adventure games/stories.

At the beginning of each mission, you will deploy your troops. You can hire mercenaries or buy your own. Your troops can level up and become various new units. You (the leader) can also level up and choose a new skill each time.

When battling the various enemies in each mission, you will want to pay close attention to the terrain because that will affect your defenses.

The battles are turn-based, and you can see up front how much damage your troops will do and how much damage you will receive.

Graphics
The graphics are okay, you can zoom in a bit, but not that much to see the finer details.

Music & Sounds
Both are very good. One thing I really missed were the voice-overs with the narrator telling the story.

Controls
The game can be played with a mouse and keyboard.

Verdict
I can be brief here because I really love this game. I enjoy the battles as well as the story. For me it's definitely a full recommendation. If you enjoy tactical turn-based strategy games, this is definitely one to try, now or in the future.
