Probably the best "remaster" I've ever played.
Although compared to other remasters, I would call this a "remake", and I would call remakes like the new FF7 a "reboot" but I digress.
It was striking from the beginning that the work has been huge and attention to detail was definitely there.
Small issues or oversights are now fixed like the previously missing moving water effect.
I really love the atmosphere of the original, and seeing gameplay of this game, I was convinced I would spend most of my time playing the original version, but "gamepad in hands", the new graphics are so much better, and incredibly faithful to the original.
Also, you can switch between both versions at any time (including custscenes and loading screens) simply by pressing the Start button which is really awesome and I wish more remasters (if not all) would benefit from this feature.
There's also a modern control scheme that I didn't really test because I feel like the level design is more adapted to the "tank" controls, but that's an opinion I have without really taking the time to get used to these new controls.
For speedrunners, it seems like most of the glitches are still present which I think is a good thing considering that by playing casually you'll very rarely encounter any.
The only thing I'd like to see is an option to unlock the 30 fps of the original version.
9.5/10 Great way to discover or rediscover this unique gem.
