this is a fantastically fun shooter with tons of weapon rng and hours of grinding available from the start. honestly surprised i've been enjoying it as much as i have, BUT...

The bugs are atrocious. some people havent experienced too much, others like myself have had bugs ranging from small graphical and audio bugs to having had entire quests locked out because the next sequence will not initiate. so far, ive had that happen three times, twice with just a restart fixing it and the other actually locking me out of the combat arena with no rewards or option to re-do.

This is quite literally my only gripe with the game after 18 hrs and getting a character to lvl 26. the story is good, exploring is entertaining enough and filled with enough to do to make it feel worth wile, repeatable bosses without a quit out is a HUGE bonus as well. Its honestly great, i just hope they address the quests and make the sequences initiate properly, because if it was a one time glitch it wouldnt be too bad, but its happened multiple times now.

Its fun game with many challenges, but its not impossible. First 80% of the base game is spent leveling up and exploring areas looking weapons, armor, talismans, upgrade materials and rune bearers to slay. This is the core loop you can expect to do, and its the best part of the game in my opinion. Carefully exploring an unknown area full of dangers and reward is something this game pulls off wonderfully again and again because there are so many varied locations to explore. After tens of hours traveling the world you'll be looking behind seeing every mountain top and castle you just came from, while seeing new places on the horizon you missed or are upcoming.

This is how the remaining 20% of the game goes without direct spoilers. Climb a near entirely empty mountain top, fight a boss, explore a not small but not large ruined temple, fight a boss you've fought multiple times before, walk up some stairs, fight a boss, travel back to an old boss arena to fight a new boss, go up some stairs, fight a new boss in a previous boss arena, fight a boss, fight a boss. Final credits... After such an epic and expansive journey i really cant sum up the finale of this game other than that. Almost like they had all the bosses and story written out but ran up on their deadline sooner than expected and shoved all the final bosses in line to fit them in. They're some of the most memorable and intense bosses in the game don't get me wrong i do enjoy the fights, but there is no break between them and (for me) is like a guillotine to the pacing and everything else that made this game what it is. After beating it multiple times and loving the game i still struggle to find anything else positive about the finale, its my least favorite stretch of the entire game.

All in all it is a terrific game that's almost impossible to find its equal among seas of "souls like" ARPG's. not without its own problems, but i feel that a lot of issues one would get from this game (like me thinking the endgame is a little too linear and paced differently from to the rest) are pretty subjective to your own experience and many others will differ. Anyone can beat this game, it's just a matter of if you can sacrifice the time to appreciate all this game has to offer. its a sea of opportunities with many tools to discover and utilize in your favor.

i can see why this game gets positive reviews but i cant shake how it does not deliver on any of its core gameplay that would keep players coming back. it's one of the least satisfying souls games ive played especially from Fromsoft, and one of the laziest most stale roguelikes ive played also. its not fun, maybe for a few runs with friends but once the loop sets in there is little to no motivation or drive to keep me wanting to play. of course that will change from person to person but it really disappointed me to see how long it took for duos to come out, and then hopping back in and remembering why i stopped playing. its stale, uninteresting after a few runs, and boring. 3 things i never thought i'd say about a fromsoft game, it just doesnt hit any of the key points that make either type of game entertaining

I'm very split on if i'd recommend helldivers 2 or not but ultimately chose to recommend it because my problems with the game can be fixed. on one hand its a very intense and unique game with great cross play and team work. it is also incredibly buggy (pun not intended) and that WILL impact your enjoyment, especially at higher tier difficulty w/ more rewards at stake. incredibly fun with really intense moments with your friends, but idk how many times at this point the fun has been sapped from the game because of the extract pelican landing through the map and killing everyone, ending the run on a 0 extract at the literal last second.

with the introduction of the caves, ive noticed a huge performance tank as well, i can hardly play the game on high settings with a steady 60 where i could do that on ultra w/ no dlss beforehand. should also add the collision for the caves is busted and you'll encounter many rocks or ledges you should easily be able to vault or step over but you instead go to a complete stop, pretty much a guaranteed death if you're being chased on anything higher than difficulty 5.

genuinely not a bad game though, i just think the execution and especially the current state of the game is a bit scuffed. sometimes adds to the chaotic nature of the game, other times completely detracts from what the game is and kills the fun making it pretty hit or miss in my opinion
