Do yourself a favor and buy some mineral oil. Sometimes in the field I lick a rock or two but it's kind of risky business. If you do a nice thin coat of mineral oil it keeps your rocks looking rich and full of color for quite a while.

If you have a trader Joe's near you, I really like their coconut body butter. All soften up my hands with it and when I'm done and there's no more visible lotion left on my skin I'll rub what oils are on my hand under my favorite rocks. It's all natural oils so it won't spoil or anything like that and it leaves your bangers smelling good too.
