First of all, to clarify: the last games I played, let alone finished, from this series were during the transition from the PS2 to the PS3, so needless to say, I'm pretty rusty, so imagine my surprise when I learned of a game being ported to Steam.

Originally I had hoped that Insomniac and Sony would've started PC porting by way of starting with the earlier games, relieving computer gamers who loved the classics of the need to find ROM's for Playstation emulators. Having finished the main story last night, however, I'm content with this alternative, given its deep story relative to the PS2 era. While I won't give spoilers for this review, I will say even some older enemies that debuted from those days turn out to have some depth to them.

Now that several patches have been applied since launch day, my only criticism of any significance has mainly to do with compatibility and performance: as primarily a Mac user, I had no choice for now but to cloud game due to DirectX12 requirements, and even there, performance sometimes did falter with enough action and AI going around, which will happen a lot toward the end of the game.

Still, figured I'd contribute my two cents and say that overall, this is a good PC port of what once was a PS5 exclusive, and hopefully it's just the beginning of that much.

Full disclosure: this is not an unbiased review because it's coming from the music composer for the game, but here we go anyway.

I remember watching the game as it was being developed, and ever since I first learned of it, I was hooked. My self-admitted love of reptiles aside, I've always been one to prefer adventure games, and while this genre doesn't encompass all of the gameplay, it was a pleasant surprise seeing a seemingly-successful game that acknowledges it in this day and age. After the first chapter of the game, a good chunk of it is in the point of view of Brok's stepson trying to pass his exams, and that in mind, adventure-preferring gamers like myself may find themselves more at home when playing as him.

This is not to say the beat-em-up aspects I dislike, however: on the contrary, I appreciate the game's use of moderation between both well-established genres of gameplay: it's never too overwhelming for someone who prefers against violence, especially thanks to the difficulty levels, the easiest giving you the choice to skip action sequences, and if you do choose to become violent, there are story-based consequences for that. The story also gets a bit dark, especially later on in the game, but I'm fairly sure other people of many ages will appreciate all the same.

Overall, well done to CowCat and everyone on the team for pulling off such an impressive feat!

Admittedly I was only able to play a few hours for now, but know that I deeply enjoyed what I did play so far! Definitely gives me very nostalgic vibes in the world of point and click adventure gaming while at the same time being something original, and even better for me, prehistoric reptiles are the main characters! That in mind, the encyclopedia is also a nice touch for those wanting to learn about dinosaurs or are simply out of touch with what's been found about them. The music is also very fitting for the game: only thing missing for the nostalgia factor is the use of orchestra mockups.

Seriously, though, well done overall, and I look forward to finishing!
