Wow, what a game!

Since I saw this game, I knew I wanted to play it. Sci-fi mixed with fantasy (machine animals and you having spear and bow), it's my thing.

I went into the game completely blind, knowing absolutely nothing about it. The game is very well made - by this I mean story. It is perfectly crafted to make you curious and then the game serves it to the player piece by piece as you find more about the world the game is placed in. First you question it a lot and you are delivered more pieces of the puzzle and finally at the finishing hours of the game, the story is completely revealed and all things connect together for you to see the full picture. I was amazed how perfectly this was made! It kept suspense until the end and actually drove me crazy to know more! I totally love this game.

Enough about story. This is action RPG where you have quite a lot of different weapons to use and combine to get the most out of them. There are many skills to unlock and it's up to you which way you want to go. Stealth? Brute force? Mounts (yes, you can ride some of the machines)? Resource hoarder? Mix of some of them? In the end, you will unlock everything, anyway. I'm not that good in this kind of games and I find HZD made well enough for me not to suck (on Normal difficulty, anyway). There are also different armors with different bonuses and you can customize weapons and armors a bit etc. You have to make new ammo for yourself, just as you have to make potions or traps.

Enemies... The machines often resemble animals and have different behaviours. Some of them can be mounted and you can ride on them. You will love going oafter some of them, you will hate others. I like the idea of machine animals and I like their differences, be it strengths or weaknesses.

Game has quite a lot of quests to complete. Some of them are like "Kill those bandits" or "Go and get this message there", other involves much more time to finish and more locations to go to, there are also quite a few really big ones. There are also training grounds where you have to beat the clock doing varius hunting things, we may call them challenges. They are hard until you get various weapons and skills, and not easy even after.

Game world is quite big and very divergent from rain forest to desert to snowy mountains - we may call it even biomes, as some "animals" can be encountered only in some parts of the world. There is possibility to fast travel, but I haven't used it. I have finished the base game in 81 hours going on foot everywhere 95% of the time with remianing 5% riding on an animal.

Runs on Steam Deck fairly well (for my standard, at least). I can only recommend this one, I loved playing it!
