Amendment regarding the negative reviews: Most who do not recommend this game have probably played barely past a chapter which is mostly a tutorial. No time to get immersed into the story, find out how you use your abilities or explore the harder puzzles later on.

Incidentally the music is among the best fitting soundtracks I have come across.

In one sentence: A very unique puzzle/platformer -but not at all casual-, a beautiful environment and smooth gameplay is what you will get from playing Nihilumbra.


It isn't a sit back game, but it is relaxing. Sounds strange yet that's how it is. The player needs concentration to solve the puzzles and coordination to survive the platforming parts and proceed. Casually clicking and pressing buttons will not get you through.
There are no weapons/guns per se, but it is most definitely not without violent encounters. You will die a lot..
The whole atmosphere of the game.. graphics, locations, animation, music.. will provide a very immersing experience.. if you let it. Spoken narration follows you throughout the game but it can be turned off, which is what I opted for. I found it more engaging to just read the occasional text while listening to the background music.
Not to reveal too much, this game can be fairly easy and straightforward in the "beginning" (trying to avoid spoilers here) and at the same time (or rather a bit later) very hard and challenging. It can be short and it can take a while longer..
At first it may look/feel silly, pretentious and borderline cringeworthy.. But the more you play, the more it grows on you.
It is one of these games that you will remember as an experience even though you may forget the scenery, the monsters, the levels..
Worth the asking price of 7€, a definite buy when in sale, if you're into this type of gaming experience.
