Look, its good. Subjectively.

3080, 64 gb, 5800x and im getting like 60 fps with constant freezes on low, its quite bad performance.

I wish there was a mixed button but ♥♥♥♥ me the game play feels good, for what it is right now.

The performance is less than optimal shall we say.

Wow, never did I think I would like this game this much, I don't know if I can ever go back to brawl after playing this. Have been in love with it since I first picked it up.
Didn't like smash and this game is very similar but there is something about this game that just keeps me itching for more, cant put my finger on it.
If you like platformers definitely pick this up as you wont regret it.

Game seems pretty shallow right now but fun, with that said though there are a couple problems.

Game is sooo lame solo, like mind numbingly bad. You have to have friends in order to make this game as enjoyable as can be at the moment.

I played for about 3 hours before realising the majority of this game is a lot of running and farming and and solo makes it really really tough, farming will take forever your base is so small you will start to run out of places to place down your chests/benches, it will end up becoming a top down Tetris simulator.

Than it turns into Tarkov simulator as you are managing inventory space and chest space like no ones business, you get your blood altar go hunt the dudes you have too, and run far, like really far the majority of the time to get there. Die once or twice in the process get your loot back kill the dude then run all the way back and play the organisation game of the year. Crafting and everything is mind numbingly slow, especially with reports that in late game some stuff ends up taking a whole day to craft. A literal 24 hours.

about a 2/3 of my time spent in this game is running, at this point I chose a PVE server to start on and dip my toes in and understand the basics before I join a PVP server to stick with but I am already feeling the wear and tear on me from having to run farm and kill the dude in the same copy and paste style just different enemies.

I want to like this game and I do but the endless crafting and waiting and running to finish the quests you are getting is soo tough to make it enjoyable especially as a solo.

Now if you are in a group of even one other person? Fan-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥-tastic this game will be. You will have plenty fun crafting, building, killing, farming, everything in this game would be enjoyable with someone else.

I don't even want to begin to imagine playing solo on the PVP servers on this. I would go absolutely mental losing my ♥♥♥♥ all the time having to try and retrieve it (if its not been taken already).

This game is fun and you will have a lot of fun, with rates turned up this game will be enjoyable but good luck playing that in a solo game where no one else is or finding a server with a tolerable community, rough experiences solo fantastic as a team.

Anyone that has friends that are getting this with them have fun you will enjoy it.

If you are solo? Godspeed my friend. Godspeed.

7/10 in general as it needs some more depth to not make the game so monotonous BUT it is completely unplayable as a solo IMO, which is what is warranting the negative. Maybe at some stage I will check back and sack up and try and find a community but at this point in time I feel like I have already invested so much time in one character that I don't know if mentally I can take the setup again, especially considering how much of a pain in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ass setting up your base is.

In the short time period I have played so far the game is great and the developer is active within the community.
Is not on Killing Floors level YET. I can see there being some potential for it to be just as good if not better than KF, so far feels pretty refined and fun to play the third person is a cool twist and the movement is okay in its current state.

The biggest thing with it right now is the AI pathing as it just feels like the classic follow the player and that's it but it seems somewhat broken at the same time, on certain spots on some maps the zombies will either stack up in one spot above or underneath you depending on if there's stairs above you like a spot on the ZED ISLAND map, they will just stack up above you and not attack you.
The other spot is IIRC Blacklab Lair on the OBJ mode when the blender is up they zombies will just stack up underneath you when standing on the grating of the blender.

As for that I haven't dived deep enough to find any more niggling issues that might arise so far everything has been okay and from what I have read here and on the discord no one else seems to be having much of a problem either.

Would like to see more people pick it up so MP is a more popular as I have yet to see someone active. Sharing the codes through the discord is a very helpful feature though.

Multiplayer

Offensive Combat Redux is as generic as shooters get for sure, but it makes up for that fact by providing wild gameplay and a character customization system that can't be beat. You can literally swap any part of your character's body with various parts to make insane creations. These all cost in-game coins that are earned through combat, but you get a pile to start so it doesn't matter. My creation was a Panda head; hotdog body, Rooster legs, cheerleader arms and then Gecko hands. That's just obscene and then you take them onto a variety of weird maps.

They actually flow fairly well with a distinct selection of designs though the graphics fall apart on some of them. I really don't want that to come across as solid, they're painfully average though with a bit of fun injected. The modes available are a Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. CTF is basically dead, but others rotate the deathmatches quite often. For those that want single player aspects to can run through the empty maps or do a survival tutorial area.

Gameplay

The graphics really are hit or miss with some aspects looking fine and other portions being downright ugly. I liked the flow of the backstreets level, but it looked horrible visually. I also found that some of the spawning wasn't particularly great across what I describe as mostly claustrophobic maps. The selection of weapons is great and they're all available to choose from at anytime so that was cool. It's simple to play as you chuck grenades, shoot folks and then carry on. The map contains additional items to collect such as ammo though it really doesn't seem focused on map control since it's always spawn flipping. Damage is also very intense since you can die quickly and that might take some a slight bit of time to get used to.

The Conclusion

I actually did have some fun playing the game and others online also thought it was enjoyable. It's certainly far from the best shooter I've ever played, but if you want a downright stupid one then this is perfect. You not only get wacky characters running around, killing people can allow you to PWN them with a selection of dances. The shooting aspects were fine with a wide selection of guns, there's a decent variety of maps though a limited overall selection of content. It can be fun to play, there's not much more to it than that. Offensive Combat Redux certainly doesn't provide anything new to genre, but it has a certain stupid appeal that I enjoyed for a short bit. It would have been nice to see more content or even say a survival aspect that's popular in shooters so content is very restricted.

Verdict:
6.0

When I first fought my way to the Nidhogg, I was in utter amazement. Two people fencing with each other in a realm of nothing but possibility with crisp, definitive animation and the most simplistic looking characters one could ever have built, one yellow, one orange. The only thing the game was missing was an effective and useful matchmaking system with proper netcode. Yeah, playing online with your friends was damn near impossible, but, for local play, Nidhogg is king.

Nidhogg was simple, if you start on the left, move all the way to the right through multiple screens while fending off attacks from the man on the right, or, if you’re on the right, move all the way to the left through multiple screens while fending off attacks from the man on the left. It’s tug of war with swords, and you have to score a kill to advance through screens. SUPER basic, but very fun.

So, how does one make something objectively less fun by adding to it? I have two major reasons.

1.
Additional weapons

There’s nothing really wrong with adding new options to a game, provided you can turn them off. The major issue with Nidhogg 2’s weapon system is that every time you respawn, you respawn with a new weapon in your hands, starting with the original rapier, then a broadsword, a dagger, and finally a bow & arrow.

None of this by itself would be a huge issue if they were useful in any way except the broadsword.

f we got to choose our weapon of choice at the beginning of the round, that would be cool, or, while respawning, hit a face button to choose a weapon, if you wanted to be able to change it up situationally. Right now, you’re likely to respawn with a bow & arrow while your opponent is running as fast as possible towards you and can gut you before you can even fire a shot.

2.
World Design

I actually really enjoy the level design of the second game, sure, there are moving platforms and stuff like that, but, there was in the first game too. Heck, it’s all graphically coherent and looks decent, but, where it really fails in my mind is that everything looks goofy, and so when you get to the end and get eaten by a giant worm, it’s just… expected at that point. It’s like hearing a joke but already knowing the punchline. The game before looked like something potentially serious and you’re fighting over who gets eaten by a giant worm. I know, it’s nothing spectacular or amazing, but it was so surprising the first time I played. Everything is so cartoony in the second game that it’s missing the major “wow” factor it had the first time – and, I’m not talking about it being unexpected (as it was the first time I played Nidhogg), I just mean, that it so clearly changes the fundamentals of the world our characters our dueling in. Even the character animations feel more goofy now. They camped up the game that seems like the original was unintentionally campy.

All in all, Nidhogg 2 is NOT a bad game, it’s really quite fun. The updated netcode is a work of art, and on my dollar store internet, even I could fight with randoms from across planet earth who just wanted to stab me and get eaten first. If they update the weapon system somehow, letting you choose what weapons you want before a round starts, or possibly adding an option for just a duel with single weapons, that would be amazing.

It won’t ever be the Nidhogg 2 I hoped it was going to be, but, it’s clever and fun, and still a fun game in it’s own right, it just feels less when they’ve added so much more.

Graphically, the game is much different. It’s a clever style, but it doesn’t feel Nidhogg to me. I understand that telling an artist his graphics aren’t what my mind imagined in his first game is entirely wrong, and enjoyment of graphics are nothing if not subjective (except when it comes to cluttered Uis, cheaply thrown together assets with different resolutions, and other obvious problems) but, there are plenty of people who agree with that opinion. If you like the new artwork, support this guy. If you like the new weapons, support this guy. Heck, if you like Nidhogg 1, leave a message in the comments on his game that even though you disagree with the direction Nidhogg 2 went in, you want to support him because you were a fan of the first game, don’t let me detract from you supporting an indie developer because I disagree with the direction he went with his game.

I am just not a huge fan of Nidhogg 2’s gameplay or graphic style in general when compared to Nidhogg 1. Dive kicks knock both players down. No cartwheel thrusts. All of the old, effective strategies are removed and you’re stuck holding a bow and arrow that makes you feel like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

The Kindred is a voxel sandbox builder that has an exponential amount of potential due to the fact of it already having a ton of features and stuff in the game to look forward too. This is a game I expect to grow way more then it is already. I dont have much to say at this point but it is a great game in its current state and you should definitely pick it up when you have the chance.
