One of those games that does what it says on the tin, and I really appreciate that. You staple squirrels. Well, first you hunt them of course. Then it's staplin' time.

Sure, this is a horror game on the slightly absurd side of things, but that doesn't make it any less excellent, quite the opposite. The Szymanski humor (if you have played any other games of David or his brothers, you know what I mean) is every bit as on point and weird as you could hope for, and the chuckles (and the occasional laugh) it gives you is very welcome in a game that... is actually a rather brilliant horror game.

The main motif, as you might imagine, is “hunter becoming the hunted”, and the way this is gradually introduced and enforced over the (admittedly, very short) run of the game is simply masterful. When on the first day of squirrel hunting (and stapling) I felt like in a slightly absurdist Deer Hunter, by day 5 I had goosebumps, and every, even familiar sound, sent shivers down my spine.

Add to this a ton of discoverable locations and squirrel facts, that tell their own little - and hella creepy - stories, and you have a wonderful experience for lovers of the eerie and disturbing.

Like so many games of David Szymanski, Squirrel Stapler is short, perfectly to the point and masterfully crafted and worth every penny of its low asking price.
