I've been playing this game for years and it FINALLY got cross-progression so I was able to get it on Steam finally! Still runs like a dream, and it's a really fun time as either a Survivor or a Killer.

The Dead part I've gotten all the time, but I was a little disappointed to boot it back up for the first time in a while and discover that they still haven't added the Daylight yet. More false advertising from Big Horror, I guess :/

This game delivers exactly what was promised...mostly. The game promises a point-and-click experience that is, essentially, a virtual Where's Waldo with a more diversified art department. It promises a chill activity with chill music, both of which it delivers on, but it also promises a relaxing environment and art, which is where it somewhat falls short. The artwork is lovely, for the most part, and I'm not here to give a full critique of the art or the artists. What I will say about it, however, is that it isn't always the most relaxing.

The promise in the description literally states, Warning: Relaxing. Although everything about the game, from its minimalist UI to its music, delivers on that promise, the artwork is, at times, too chaotic to truly serve the purpose. While the artwork is appealing on its own, the clutters and clumps of lines, shapes, and swirls become overbearing on the viewer after a certain point because of the way that they're viewed in the course of gameplay. Rather than being zoomed out to take in the whole forest, the player is required to zoom in and be constantly faced with the visual chaos of the trees. Given that it's the only thing you have to do in the game, there isn't really a chance for you to take a step back from it all and breathe. Although it was never enough to fully make me dislike the game, it definitely had me pulling away from my screen after only a few minutes.

So, is the game worth it? The above paragraphs now being written, this truly is the only real critique I have of the game. After all, it is what it is: a short, pretty, one-hour game in which you find and click snails. Oh, and lettuce! You're also clicking pieces of lettuce here, for those of you looking for a bit of variety in your snail clicking. You'll get exactly what you're here for, and you'll get it in a pretty little package for a beautifully low price.

You won't be here for a long time, but you will be here for a chill time. It took me barely an hour to get literally every single achievement in the game, and that was with me getting distracted by friends on Discord halfway through the session. I've clicked so many snails that I'll likely be seeing them in my sleep and enough lettuce to last me three days' worth of salads. You, too, will be able to click as many snails and lettuceseeses, and you'll very likely also have as chill of a time as I did here!

Is there anything that I would change about this game? The art itself is lovely, but I would like a little bit more variety in the art styles. Although they're all clearly from different artists, they all have the same feeling because of the way that they're rendered. For the most part, they all of thick black lines outlining the shapes and mostly flat colors. The pieces aren't dull on their own, but the way that these elements repeat themselves so much across the different pieces creates a dulling effect on the senses. If there was some more variety in rendering - different line work, different coloring methods, different styles - I feel like it would do much to mitigate the chaotic, cloudy-headed feeling the game currently inspires.

IN CONCLUSION: It's says it's a chill game. It's a chill game. Again, this is just a digital Where's Waldo, only with snails instead of Waldo. So, imagine that Waldo had a shell. And/Or that he was green and leafy. Or both, even - I dunno your life, dude. You can imagine any Waldo you want!

Just make sure ya do it while playing this, because it's really chill and pretty.

I wanted more. Dang. Really good stuff. Had a blast with my bestest boy, Sam, but it's two levels. Basically one. Five total puzzles. What? I'm sad now. I wanted more. Sam is sad, too. He's saying he isn't, but I know he is. I can't believe I don't have an option for both recommending and not recommending a game. Dang. Please more.

I wanna go play Talos Principle now.

When I was discussing the game with the developer ahead of time, this game was described to me as a Myst-style game. I remember having extremely fond memories of Myst, and I immediately got excited about this one! Myst-style puzzles with a more horror-styled atmosphere? Absolutely sign me up!!

Almost as soon as the game started, however, I was bludgeoned over the head with the blunt, crippling fact that solving the puzzles can be challenging. Like, really challenging. Like, if-you-miss-one-little-thing-in-one-little-note-you're-hopelessly-lost-for-a-good-long-while challenging. It was in these moments of unfiltered, almost hopeless moments of being lost that I remember one very important, very crucial facts:

I absolutely suck at Myst-style games.

You can see me slowly have this realization here: https://youtu.be/F0C-ki5FSQE

Sure, I love 'em, but oh, man, am I bad at 'em! This game replicates that feeling of Myst so well - from the atmosphere to the audio to the puzzles - and that, unfortunately for me and my unending desire to be able to plow through a game at a breakneck pace just to see all the cool set pieces and locations, translated perfectly into the difficulty surrounding some of the puzzles. This game led me around like an animal. It baited me with just enough cool stuff and spooky atmosphere to get me to dash out of the area I was supposed to be in just before I was about to stumble upon the very thing that would allow me to truly progress the game and leave the room properly.

In short, this game played me like a damn fiddle - and I love every second of it~!!

Sure, I suck at Myst-style games, but I still love playing them! I've mentioned it above quite a few times now, but I really do enjoy the atmosphere and pacing of those games, and Dark Hope replicates them perfectly! The atmosphere truly teleports you to a new location, one that's darker and mysterious, and combined with the puzzles into something that can truly capture your mind for hours. That's good, because the difficulty of some of the puzzles will definitely have you here for hours! Dark Hope requires you to pay attention to every possible hint that you come across. Even the most minute details, things that seem like mundane world building, can actually be the keys that unlock the next step in your journey throughout the game. Missing out on even one slip of paper can have you going insane and feeling trapped in the halls of the shadowy facility, helplessly backtracking as your mind races between determination to find the hint you missed and desperation to make sure you aren't being followed by a mysterious, dark figure.

As fun as the puzzle-solving and atmosphere are, however, the one place that this game lacks is the pacing of the objects you interact with. The story is paced perfectly for this kind of game, giving you ample time to get lost solving puzzles and figuring things out without slipping completely into the realm of hopeless madness that makes you want to simply give up. The same absolutely cannot be said for things you have to interact with in the universe. Gears, elevators, and trains all seem as though they have the set speed of one mile per hour and they absolutely cannot be bothered to even consider picking up the pace. Spending a lot of time solving puzzles is fantastic, because you have the knowledge that at the end of all the time spent you have that euphoric moment of solving the puzzle, making it all worthwhile. The same feeling does not come around when you've simply been loafing around waiting for something to move in its own sweet time. If there is one criticism I can ask the developers to address, it's this!

Overall, however, Dark Hope provides a beautiful, well-executed, and fun puzzle experience that will satisfy any fan of puzzle games! The spooky atmosphere and at times genuinely unnerving settings, amplified by the use of flickering and on-and-off lighting, creates a truly immersive experience that'll enrapture any player. At $10, and with the amount of time you can spend solving puzzles and exploring in this game, I'd say the game is well worth the price!

It's not often that a rage game is also one that can properly be called a good game. Usually, games that make players rage go no farther than that one set goal. This goal is usually achieved through cheap gimmicks, and all too often outright broken games are thrown out into the world under the guise of "rage game". After all, dying a lot makes the player rage, so throwing cheap tricks and BS into the game to ensure that they die a lot is obviously the way to go, right? It is this unfortunate over-abundance of terrible rage games that makes the world glad for games that make players rage but are still structurally sound, designed to provide both heart-shattering rage and moments of great elation once the challenges that brought on those feelings are finally overcome. Games such as the Dark Souls games; the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy, at points; and now, Maximum Momentum.

Full disclosure, I received this game for free because when a dev posts in a YouTube subreddit offering people the chance to take a look at their game, the upstart YouTuber - like yours truly - should be smart enough to take them up on the offer! I only hope that other YouTubers who take that chance, and myself trying the trick again in the future, are as lucky as I was now to be given a copy of MM! I'll tell you guys what I told the dev when I first messaged them after finishing up recording for my first video on the game: it's a blast (no pun intended)!

The game handles like a dream! It's smooth and responsive, does everything just as how it's supposed to. It's appealing enough to look at as well - nothing ground-breaking, for sure, but far from an eyesore to look at! It's standard space imagery that serves its purpose of making you realize that you are, indeed, piloting a ship around some interstellar space wreckage! The story is quite compelling, although not something unseen before: One of solving some mystery and identifying a mysterious figure (to remain as spoiler-free as possible) and revealed to you largely through the exposition of your communicator! Everything here may have been standard and well-made, but where the game really shines is in the part that sets it apart from most other games of its kind: the difficulty mechanic.

Unlike most other games, where the difficulty is set at the beginning, 'Maximum Momentum' allows you to immediately change the speed from wherever you are in the game. The word immediately here is critical because whereas other games that allow you to change difficulty in the midst of playing force you through menus to do so, 'Maximum Momentum' allows you to quite literally immediately change your difficulty through a speed slider on the side of the screen at any time. It may seem like a small edition to the game, but it's not until you try it that you begin to realize just why so many other space games - 'Star Fox' being the one that continuously came into my mind while playing - set your speed for you throughout the game with little-to-no option to change it. It's extremely easy to go from confident in your handling of the speed slider to a panicky little whimpering Icarus as you've flown your wax wings too close to the speed sun and hurtled yourself straight into a spinning beam. Using the slider is remarkably easy to use, as it's just as responsive as all other controls in the game, which makes slowly switching speeds once you've gotten used to it an absolute dream!

In conclusion, if you have any modicum of interest in space, sci-fi adventures, speed running, and/or rage games, you should absolutely do yourself the favor of checking this game out! It's solidly built, feels great to control, has an extremely fun main mechanic, and even provides some replayability for those desiring to get better times on older levels as they improve! Give it a go and keep your eyes peeled for those damn vortexes!

I didn't expect this to be a sort of puzzle game! I liked it! It's art style is cute; the dialogue is funny; and it leaves you with a sense of satisfaction as you complete the different objectives! The ending was kinda unexpected, and not in the best way, but a fun play nonetheless!

This the kinda game that makes me really, really wish there was a "Meh" option on here, as opposed to just "Yes I recommend this game" or "No, I do not recommend this game".

The game looks really good. It's a lot easier on the eyes than the average horror/spooky/environmental Unity engine games you see on here. The atmosphere is really cool, the story is intriguing, and it runs smooth as butter. Sounds like Heaven, right? As funny as that joke is if you've played the game, no, it is not. Why is that? How can something that checks all the boxes of a good indie horror game on Steam NOT be super good?

Length.

Like many a college sorority girl on a night out, I was quite disappointed when I discovered the length of this thing I was excited to fool around with. Just as it seems like it's getting going, just as it feels like you're about to discover something new...boom. Over. Done. That's all, folks. ya don't have to go home and why would you want to stay here? Well, I'll tell ya why: because everything else about it is great so far! All that stuff I just said up there that you should definitely have already read to have made it this far is all real true and real good! Why would you just end it where you did??

Unfortunately, because this is a pay-to-play game and not one of the Steam freebies, I'm gonna have to say no, I do not not recommend playing it. Yes, I definitely recommend looking up a video of someone else playing it (insert shameless plug here) , but no, I do not recommend you playing it yourself.

I honestly hate that I feel the need to say that. It really does look and feel great! I just wish there was an actual game here instead of a tech demo about what you can do with your brand new Nintendo Switch Dev Kit.

I really liked this game! My cat looks like Ed from 'Ed Edd n Eddy' and its design is somewhat Tim Burton-esque, only without Danny DeVito in a top hat!

Early Access Review
I absolutely L O V E D this game so far! Got some MAJOR 'Earthbound' vibes from it, and I adored it completely!

The level design and scenery were really nice, and the character design was absolutely goregeous!
It's funny, creative and fun to play, with its overall charming atmosphere and simplistic controls!

My only criticisms are the combat system, which made me feel as though I were missing something with it whenver I used it because all I wound up having to do was rapid-hit the enter key, as well as the fact that I WANT MORE OF IT ALREADY AND I HAVE TO WAIT!!!

Seriously, though, 10/10 already, and I can NOT wait to see even more~!

Was disappointed at first, 'cause I wanted another 'Stanley Parable'.

Almost turned it off, and then it turned around in an instant.
