Insanely cool game, highly recommend. Battles are super fun, story is fantastic, and the difficulty options are solid- I played on hard for all of the main story, which is a fun challenge, but no shame in playing a lower one in order to get the intended experience (or preferred experience)- Since it doesn't alter enemy patterns, it's really just a matter of picking what would be most enjoyable for you.
The accessibility features are also cool and useful- colorblind mode was very helpful during the superboss i fought, and I probably would have enjoyed the game more with it (although the main game is very playable without it (unless you're colorblind)).

Really solid 2D platformer, very tight controls and solid design. The limited lives in the cartridges (which are side content) can be annoying, but they themselves aren't any worse designed, and are designed with them in mind. There's also a lot of mechanics I would otherwise find frustrating, but the mechanics always being deterministic and the tight controls prevent that from being the case by having everything be predictable. The game is very contemplative, almost like a puzzle platformer, but also has a speedrun focused design with the predictability that results in rushing through often being the best way to go about a room. The resulting
Some stuff regarding the second half: I didn't realize your lives replenish every area so i put off playing the game for like a year and a half, after not finishing the switch version that I bought when the game first released. oops. The glitched carts are extremely fun, without lives they can just be hard as balls and I love them for it- they are definitely harder than the rest of the future though, was honestly a bit underwhelming purely bc I played two before beating the game. Now that I'm playing more of them, they're REALLY hard, I coincidentally did the two that are easiest to me.

Extremely fun game, one of the best 3D platformers I've played. Combat is very fun too, makes me wanna get into character action games. The comparisons to Sonic aren't unwarranted since it plays similarly to the Adventure games (and I do keep this in my Sonic collection) but this game is still very much its own thing, and I feel like just calling it "Sonic but good" does it a bit of a disservice. The writing is also a lot better in this than the first game, which I'm very happy about. Absolute must play

It has a lot of issues, but ultimately this game is a banger. It feels like it's picking up where SA2 left off all those years ago (more recently for me who played it this year for the first time lol) and the world is super fun to go around. The cyberspace levels are a mixed bag, the boost levels play like ass but the SA2 and original levels are (mostly) really fun. The controls do suck for cyberspace (the boost is completely unnecessary for them) but they're great in the main world, as long as you adjust most of the sliders to be max. The writing is also fantastic, Sage is a top 5 Sonic character imo. The characterization of everyone is top notch, the references to older games are done well (would be a bit excessive for any other series but it works for here), and the new voice direction took a bit of getting used to but they all sound great, Amy and Knuckles being highlights just from the insane level of improvement from their previous direction. Also, shout-outs to this being the first game since SA2 to develop Eggman as a character. I will say, the finale was definitely rushed, and the second half of the game has more issues than the first half gameplay wise. The combat also sucks unless the enemy itself is fun to fight (a good amount of the minibosses are fun to fight even with the bad combat because of this). Regardless, still a great game. I would recommend getting it on sale but if you're like me and just really want it then full price is def worth it.

Also denuvo sucks and the settings menu crashed multiple times with me needing to fix it manually, big oof

Genuinely just an incredible game. Everything in the original game is here (except for one secret ending that wouldn't work in this engine), and the new contents adds a meta-narrative to the game while effectively doubling the existing content with one extremely simple (on paper) addition. Must buy for anyone interested in these types of games, regardless if you've played the original or not.
