2023 Update: Still holds up, still new content being added.

UPDATE: 6 years later, this game still holds up, and is still F2P friendly.

As a rule, I generally avoid early access games. Since this one is F2P, I figured there was no harm in making an exception. I'm glad I did, as I have been quite pleased with the game.

Eternal is a Collectible Card Game, similar to Magic: The Gathering, but much simpler in terms of mechanics. I had recently gotten frustrated with Hearthstone; as a F2P player, I didn't feel like I could build decks I wanted to due to lack of cards and lack of opportunity to get cards without paying. Eternal is much better in this regard, as you can just keep playing and acquiring currency and cards without paying. There are two types of draft, one is PVP, the other is vs AI (the AI uses constructed decks, which makes the games more interesting). In both cases you can win gold/packs, but you also keep all the cards that you drafted.

There's also the Gauntlet, where you play a deck against (up to) 7 AI controlled decks in a row, earning currency as you go. The last mode available right now is Ranked, which is constructed against other players. You get a small amount of currency for every win, plus extra for every 3rd.

So, overall good game with an excellent F2P model.
