Howdy partners !

Introduction

I started gathering and writing down my thoughts after playing the game for 2.5k hours...so this has been way overdue to say the least... :)
I would first like to thank "Team Fistful of Frags" and Rebel_Y for the literaly thousands hours of fun i had/still having in the game, getting to know many amazing peolple that are part of this community it is something i consider a privledge and an honour.
All that for free, yes FREE with no quotes, no microtransactions, pay to win mechanics or even daily logins.
Fistful of Frags stands before us today as a testament to the passion and power of the modding community and to this i think...we should raise our whiskey bottles ! :)

A short story of a passion project.

Fistful of Frags is an amazing FPS (first person shooter) with a long history dating back to as early as 2007, back then it was just a mod for 'Half Life 2'.
After 7 years of moderate success and of active development by the game's creator Rebel_Y and the modding community's combined efforts a move was made to release the game as a stand-alone version on steam making it much more accessible to a far larger audience back in 2014.

Graphics

There's no denying that in terms of graphics quality it's age shows in a lot of places but a lot of care and effort has been put in terms of lighting to make it as pleasing and presentable as it can get. The gun models especially are exceptionaly and faithfuly repressented in this game when you compare them to their real life counterparts, with like-wise masterfuly made genuine reload animations something that in my opinion isn't praised enough ! :)

Gameplay
First..lets set up the mood with this, Vigilantes feel me on this no doubt..! xD
https://youtu.be/6yCIDkFI7ew

There's a large variety of weapons avaliable to you right from the start of the game ranging from guns-revolvers, riffles, shotguns to melee, knives, a hatchet, a machete, brass knuckles and of course sticks of TnT !
You can even buy you some snakeskin boots to boost your kick damage and kickback range.
Yes... i did just say 'kick' cause in this game you're not only allowed to shout "pass the whiskey" and "Not without my gold" but you can even be kicking off some cowboys off a cliff while doing so ! It's so FUN ! :)

The guns, aw well... where do i even start with this... :'D
As it was already mentioned above, you start with a huge selection of weapons (guns and melee) avaliable to you.
All guns have something different to offer and behave in a unique way in comparison to the others, that includes accuracy, recoil, rate of fire, bullet capacity, weight and yes... even gunsmoke !

More guns can be obtained via opening and looting weapon chests scattered around the map in static, predetermined set locations. This adds up to the whole game design since these chests are gonna be of major interest to you but to other enemy players aswell as you can surely suspect. :)
A new mechanic added in 2020 also adds an oportunity for you to get a bonus weapon chest spawn when you kill a person on a KS (killing streak) which in my opinion adds more flavour to the game since the most notorious players will be hunted down mercilessly !
Get that gold ! :D

Fistful of Frags offers a lot of variety in terms of game modes like '4Team Shootout' (a four team deathmatch), '2Team Shootout', 'Free For All deathmatch', 'TeamPlay' for more strategic, objective based play, 'TeamElimination' for methodical and strategic play, A 'Gungame' to get kills with all the different guns in the game and FistfulOfZombies a mode where you and your team try to survive live enemy player zombie hordes. there are some other modes aswell but i wanted to share here with you the most popular ones.

Map design

I saved the map design for last to properly emphasise how good it feels.
Most maps have buildings that you can enter, decorated in true wild west fashion, from saloons with pianos, whiskey only serving bars and fancy chandeliers (yes the chandelier is important) to hotels and outdoors... ...ekhhmmm "crappers" to hide in ! >:D
There are several props placed around the map that can be picked up and tossed onto your enemies to damage/dissarm them or both (with the right perk chosen).
There are also a lot of whiskey jars placed around the map for you to drink and regain health but be wary, consume at your own risk as it will make you dizzy and drunk for a short period of time reducing your accuracy, pass the whiskey ! :D
In almost all cases the maps offer great maneuverability, you will realise that as you play and learn them by exploring.
You can get to most of places via alternate paths and shortcuts, this makes for a truly joyful ride as you will often find your self setting traps, ambushing enemies and once you become proficient with the game's movement system even parkour around the map !

Epilogue

After all the things i've mentioned above you must've realised by this point that you're in for a wild ride if you choose to join us and play this wild wild west 'pass the whiskey' "simulator".
Some times some update may seem unreasonable but no update so far was introduced to "just change the game", in the span of years some of it's unique features might have been slightly obscured by some changes but the game is in my honest opinion as enjoyable as the first time i started playing it, i would argue maybe even more now days ! :)

So... here's me wishing and hopping that you give this game a chance to take you back to a time where cowboys reinged supreme and where gold and whiskey only mattered !

Pass the whiskey !

well said judge. I for one would recommend this game to anyone who likes a 2000esque fps game with a good cowboy twist, and a great deal of nuance. I keep coming back to this game, and even now from the uk can find a server or 3 with players to battle at any time of day with playable ping.

No.. dead is dead .... 0.
A game that has a small in size dedicated population cannot be called dead.
Its been like this for 3 years, sometimes growing, sometimes reducing.
The game has been tried and played by thousands of people last year.. but ofc you wouldn't know that... you just know how to name call peeps who disagree with ya ...lol

Define your meening of "dead" cause people have been calling it that for 3 years now even though a simple look at the steamcharts will show you that that's untrue.
As for "shit"... you're entitled to your opinion i guess. :steammocking:
Such attitude surely doesn't help the game grow though... sad .

This game is more alive than a lot of AAA "dead on release" games that get released now days and it actually offers a unique FPS experience.
