I don't feel like I can truly call this a detective game, or even a puzzle game. The choices available are limited (2-3 outcomes), and almost none of the choices that are made throughout the game affect the ending, or really the flow of the story in general. Choices do not matter. Speaking of the ending, I felt that they were quite sudden, especially "Thoughts are free", and didn't follow entirely plausibly from the actions you took to get there. How exactly does the investigator incriminating oneself IMMEDIATELY result in the termination of Orwell? How does an incredibly sophisticated surveillance program like Orwell, even still in test phase, get torn down in a day? Never mind that there were probably backup investigators lined up, or that The Party likely would not have wanted to let go of the project so easily. If the main message of the story is that "surveillance cannot be impartial and bias will always be present", then it seems careless to throw away the secondary message - "surveillance is pervasive and nigh impossible to detect and curtail once it reaches a tipping point" - in the final moment. And yet curtail in an instant, they did.

Credit where it is due, the character dialogue and writings felt very genuine, and portrayed each person convincingly.

The movement controls are very fluid and polished, which was a pleasant surprise as it's often overlooked in dialogue-centric games. As a different review pointed out, the combat segments seemed a little out of place along with the rest of the game, but was nonetheless well implemented. The voice acting is amazing, and makes for a readily immersive experience along with the soundtrack and graphics. So, it never felt tedious, but the endings themselves felt somewhat underwhelming despite the wealth of dialogue options.

This. This is the moment that I cried - not when Angel died, not when Roland died, and not when Jack died. This is real grief.

It's... the characters are incredibly believable and their pain is incredibly tangible. It is also refreshing to see, for once, the main character not blindly follow the romantic subplot.

My only gripe with this game at all is the fact that erasing gets tedious after a while.
