Killing Floor is nothing like Left 4 Dead, where the combat is really simplified and more level-progress driven. Killing Floor [KL] is a survival zombie game, taking leafs from more "realisitc" domains. Basically, you cant run through hordes and you can get overun really easily if you're not careful.
The game mostly runs of a money system that you rack up for every hit against a zombie and more for a complete kill. End of the round, you use that money to buy bigger guns, ammo, and armor. Then survive again.
The game is pretty cheap, requires more team play than L4D, and it's different. It's a decent play. :)
Hoped that helped man. See you on the field sometime!
