The Bard's Tale IV cannot be called a sequel to the original trilogy. It is barely even a dungeon-crawler, with linear dungeons and extremely easy combat. This is not what was promised.

However, it could have still been something new and interesting, an RPG version of games like Portal and The Witness. Alas, it is not. The devs did design a few great puzzles and areas, but then decided that their game needed to be EPIC, adding 20 hours of pure filler content: you'll fight the same dumb enemies and solve the same dumb mechanical puzzles over and over and over again. No InXile, seven block puzzles in a row isn't good design.

Bard's Tale IV could have been a short & fun casual puzzle RPG, but it's just an overly-long waste of your time.

Spot on review, both puzzles and combat are so dumb and easy it feels like an insult

The original trilogy is crapier tho.

Pegasus Organs, I specifically mentioned that it could have been something new and interesting, but it fails because the content is too repetitive and dull. Don't assume things about people you know nothing about, you just sound like a frustrated fanboy.

This is the most disappointing kickstarter game I've yet to experience. I regret letting them grab me by my nostalgia and lead me along, only to deliver this steaming pile of bug-ridden garbage.

Three updates in and it somehow runs even worse than it did at launch.

I'm sick of the "snarky hip game reviewer" thing. It is not cool to hate everything and, as someone that played the old games, you'd bash this no matter what it was because it is not Bard's Tale 1, 2 or 3. And, there is some twicted need in all the angry gamers of today to hate on anything new.

I guess it's not as bad as that Bard's Tale 'arpg,' right? Was fairly clear this was going to be Bard's Tale for hipster-generation from the initial pitches.
