It's in the name of the game, so it's not a spoiler to say this game revolves around slaying pr-... Oh, it is? I can't say that? Okay, then WHO KNOWS what you get up to in this crazy cool, hand-drawn doozy of an adventure? Seriously though, it's as if The Stanley Parable met a tsundere, (if you know what this means, it's too late for you), dating sim. You meet the princess, you talk to the princess, and then? It's up to you. Depending on how you interact with the princess and what you choose to say or do, you'll affect the world around you in ways you never thought possible. There's only one right answer, so what are you gonna do?

I think this game does the dialogue perfectly. Whenever you're faced with a choice, you typically have a couple of options that span quite a range. I think in a lot of games like this, it's easy to railroad a player into choosing what you want them to, but I always felt like I had a wealth of options at my fingertips, and some of the actions/dialogues were quite creative. I never felt like I was lacking an option I wanted, which is quite a feat in my opinion. It just goes to show the quality of the writing; these guys knew exactly what their players would yearn for.

--MILD SPOILERS--
The part of this game I liken to The Stanley Parable is the cyclical portion- every time you make it to the "The Long Dark", you have one more conversation with your hand-crafted princess before being whooshed back to Chapter I, where you do it all over again. It's easy for these games to wear out their welcome if they have you retreading content over and over, so I have to applaud Slay the Princess for giving the player agency almost immediately out of the gate. I had to retread the opening sentence, maybe a couple of sentences, before being able to veer from the path and discover something new.
--END SPOILERS--

Slay the Princess features a very cool hand-drawn aesthetic, it's got pleasing music and ambience, yet not afraid to get eerie and dark when necessary, and you can complete a run front-to-back in around four hours. It's charming, it's engaging, it's fun to look at; it's easy to let yourself get lost in the forest for a couple of hours, so why not take the plunge?
