I was hooked before but now I am addicted.

The Heaven and Hell update massively overhauled this already great game and almost every change was for the better.
Added new classes whose abilities are a massive upgrade and overall fun.
The Perk system is a welcome overhaul that allows you to customize your run which before was just a starting relic(always pick gold)
The combat is snappy and high paced and doesn't get boring even after 142 hours played(at the time of review)
The only issue I have with the game is it doesn't have save state during the run so you have to play an entire hour long run all at once, no leaving and coming back. This is a standard feature in most rougelite I've encounter but this is a minor issue in the long run. Also since all weapons are just hold to fire can you make a toggle for them save my poor mouse and finger?

TLDR;Get the game.

Aright, lets do this one last time. My name is Farvan Torna for the past 14+ years I've been this worlds one and only true gamer. I'm sure you know the rest.

I've seen the criticism about this game and I've found it a bit unwarranted , maybe it is because I come from Noita Stock, but I don't find the level super hard or the game unfair. The game is tough and I believe that is by design. Now the issue I do take with is bullet sponges they call bosses. It might be because they have so few of them they want them to last but my suggestion is to do what Issac does and have a bunch more bosses. This thought will also run through the levels because especially in the later stages getting past one stage in a level takes forever even with a god tier wand. They should be mostly pretty quick maybe 2 minutes at most.

I find the wand crafting to be extremely fun and rewarding. Really lets you stretch your legs and experiment. Gives me those same Notia crafting tingles. I've not had a run where I couldn't craft a god tier wand.

Overall, I highly recommend if you are either a fan of Isaac or Notia or both or even neither.
I won't comment on the story because It honestly isn't my focus when I play a game like this.

After nearly 24 hours and beaten both paths, I can say yeah this game is fun for a short while(wait for the sale)
The biggest tragedy of this game is the lack of viable builds.
Try to go for Defensive build poison enemies/exploders just bypass it completely.
Try to go for a speed build your defenses are too weak and you get killed. The boost to dodge is far too weak to be useful.
Aww Strength build, you say, no...you fall into the same trap as the Speed.
Magic build? No, don't be ridiculous.

This game needs a bit more to be a true depth strategy game, right now it is all surface level. I hit you, you hit me maybe you get good combo to really get it popping. For example: got the spear that hit when you moved and knock back glove. I could just go left or right and kill things with impunity, that was rare.
The problem RNGjesus is the main driver as the player you have very little agency to direct your build besides rolling the dice. With game like Slay the Spire , which I have many more hours in, You can really direct your build even with heavy RNG, this game lacks that.

TLDR
Fun Game, buy while on sale.
RNG too heavy.

I will recommend this game solely for the price point and production value.
It has some issue that could easily be fixed with some minor tweaking.
1. Allow your dead to be set into zones if you can't do RTS controls. Defense,Close, Far..ect..ect
2. Allow to set objects for your dead. I want you to focus on collection, I want you to go after most health. Minor quality of life.
That would really be it for it to be a great time waster game for the price point.

Far to unfinished to be selling it.
Needs some basic stuff like window sizes, a minor tutorial and such. I will recommend once these are implemented.

I cannot recommend this game at this time. This is one of those times wish we had an Eh was an option.
The Career feels just like an extended tutorial with no fail condition.
The scale of buildings are off completely. I've recreated buildings that I made in Revit and visited on site. The building are always tiny compared to the size they should be.
The free build mode is very limited because of the doorway restrictions.
Overall I feel like this game could be great but limited by the Engine

I really want to recommend this game. This game is funny, clever and hard. However, it doesn't know when to end the joke. It is like cousin who tells the same joke over and over. My main gripe with this game are horrendously long sections of insta death grinds and the painfully lengthen ending of the game.

The first 75% of the game had me a laughing with delight.Rolling with the ridiculously over the top stuff. The challenges were tough but mostly fair. Then around level 7-9 it just becomes a grind. I am forcing myself to play, just to see the end. Initially, I planned to replay the game to see what other options. I won't be now.

If you are a fan of metal gear, this game is worth the ticket price but know it peters out towards the end.

I've not be disappointed in pretty much any of the SteamWorld series. Every genre this teams tackles seems to glow but this one does have some glaring flaws.
This is a solid RPG with at first seems to be simple mechanic but as you progress, you gain better cards with more combos. Allowing for ridiculous combos and team dynamics.

I should mention I am playing on legend but in later parts of the game you encounter some stupidly overpower bosses with health bars the size of my massive hard tape measurer. They deal equivalent damage as well. Seem to think bigger healthbars equal harder but it is just dull and boring.

The storyline is simple and charming. The characters while mostly 1D are endearing . Overall I found it pleasant experience.

They commit the mortal sin of gaming by adding cutscene before bosses. While skippable in a way, still have to wait and press button mulitple times. While not gamebreaking,it is annoying for future bosses. Lets talk about trying to revisit chapters to find missed treasure, you have to go through the entire storyline again which instantly turned me off from revisiting areas.

If you want a short, sweet, and pretty entertaining RPG to play though, this is the game. Don't expect complex storytelling or a massive expanding world. Expect an entertaining deckbuilding RPG.

I cannot recommend this game and the reasons will become clear in this review. I ask you to patiently read through this lengthy review till the end and then agree or disagree with me.

So much grinding, an ungodly amount. To upgrade my lab need metal, should be easy right? Nope have to sit hitting a rock over and over for the 1/10 chance to get a piece of metal. Oh no, you cannot just hold the button, you have to keep manually clicking.EVERY.SINGLE.TIME.
I'm only two hours into the game and I am waiting around.
Shame this game has such potential.
