This is like an expanded (more stages, more upgrades) version of the 'cell stage' from Spore (2008), which is itself an expanded version of the lesser known Feeding Frenzy (2004). Mechanics are as expected: move about and 'eat' anything smaller than you to get bigger. The gravity mechanics and ability to create your own defensive solar system of orbiting objects brings this a cut above the games it drew inspiration from. Main downside is game length: a playthrough is under 30min and replayability is limited 5 or so runs before all the upgrades have been tried.

Don't know if the dev reads comments (or speaks englinsh), but this one is for you: There are two possible game modes that could be added that would increase both play time and replayability. The easiest would be an endless mode after the finish credits with enemies getting slowly larger. There is also the potential to turn Drifter Star into an amazing roguelike. Instead of each upgrade lasting one level, have them stack and make enemies harder and more numerous.

tl;dr If you like the cell (first) stage from the game Spore, this will tickle your memberberries in the right way. Currently a very compact experience, around 30min to finish and under 3hr to platinum. Fingers crossed the dev continues to cook with this one, since there is some real potential to turn this from a chill time waster into something properly engaging

Early Access Review
This one gets it right in a number of ways:
1) Tech trees are intertwined - you always know what to unlock next and how it will help you progress
2) Progress is visible/tangible - you aren't just building a base, you see the planet come to life around you
3) An 'idle game' where you have plenty to collect and explore so being idle is actually a choice
4) Enough building and automation features to make creativity feel rewarding
5) No crashes, game breaking or even major bugs in 150+ hours
6) Pleasant dev team

Cons:
1) Progress is earned - no instant gratification here
2) Visuals get the job done but nothing amazing - hopefully we get some more graphics settings down the line
3) The 'tutorial' is not even worth its name - there is quite a bit of important information that is simply never provided to the player, the wiki will be your friend
4) Alignment/Piece Autodock while base building can be clunky if you are feeling too creative
5) Why is there no crouch?!
6) Misc other early access stuff ie being able to clip through scenery, misaligned/funny looking textures - most of the major stuff has been fixed but some issues still remain
