The area of the square is:

A=s2

A=6462

A=417316 ft2

The area of the triangles is a little bit more difficult. The formula we will use is A=b×h2, however we don't know the height.

We can do this using pythagorean theorem, since this is a right pyramid.

Let the height be h. We use 323 since we only want half the base.

3502+3232=h2

h=√226,829 ft

This is an irrational number, so it is preferable to leave in exact form until the final step of the calculation.

We can now calculate the combined areas of the triangles, using the formula atriangles=4×b×h2.

atriangles=4×646×√226,8292

atriangles=1292√226,829 ft2

We can now add the area of the triangles to the area of the square to find exactly how much glass was needed to surface the building.

S.A=1292√226,829+417,316

S.A≅1,032,651.26 ft2

Hence, approximately 1,032,651.26 ft2 of glass will be required
