there is a training in the OTS so that future lelel ups get you more will. Supports trained from rookie after getting this get 120 will or so. Heavies are not easy to use but as i mentioned with 2 snipers an In the zone, a heavy can blow up enemy cover and then the snipers get free shots. they can shoot twice too and get the most health out of the 4 classes. Support is really great if they get psi powers, and you can then use the gene lab to make them absolute beasts, but a psi assault with good gene enhancements is just SO good you should try it. Psi powers are for when you can't use your shotgun, and mind controlling a muton is a good way to end the turn rather than just shooting with a 20% shot. they get really versatile. don't bother with Psi Panic, you have flamethrowers for that.

One of my supports can caryy 4 medkits (both have it) and the smoke comes with without packing it...also with mecs I like their versitility they can do lot of damage and one that fully upgraded can shoot twice also I put restorative mist and proximity mines on my mec so over all it is like a medic/heavy/sniper (with the double shot) not to mention her will was 98 also when I got her there was no titan armore she was easy to get early on and I build my squad around her. so I think my squad works the best for me and my play style I don't like heavy's due to them blowing stuff up that I could use so thats why I don't tend to use them.

turns out there is a character limit.

supports are really only good because of their will, the smoke grenade is great, but you can only use it to the fullest if you give up medkits, so either you bring 2 supports, med and smoker (done that, works great) or you only have 1 smoke. assaults are better than mechanized units most times, with extra conditioning, titan armor and chitin plating they become better tanks too (since they can take cover), run and gun is just great.

as i said, having a bit of everything would be best. a well equipped heavy can absolutely destroy muton pods with the late game launcher, and assaults are what you get out of bad situations with: they can run overwatches and deal crazy amounts of damage, usually more than snipers since they tend to flank and crit. i used some second wave options in my last campaoign, a ironman easy, so that flanks are always crits (on units that can take cover, the others still have protection against crits of course) and training trees are mostly randomized (the first skill does not change, and some important class-defining skills don't either). that means that snipers could get really good perks, a in the zone/squadsight sniper with disabling shot, headshot, and flush is basically a jack of all trades; but still, unless all enemy units are dumb enough to flank themselves, a good mayhem rocket is more reliable. also it blows up cover so you get free shots with the aforementioned sniper.

I just take from my most recent campain where I had two snipers(both had double tap, that is crazy damage they where my go to for sectopods) a mec(that had been one of the troops you start with) a shiv (that auto repaired I liked having a unit that always healed and since all the other units where col rank it did not matter) and two support (both with crazy high will so they also functioned as my psi attckers) and to top it off all but one of the support (the one with the highest will 98 got psi armor) had titan armor this squad setup worked well for me seeing as in the last 20 or so operations I did not lose anybody (although since this was my first try with this game and it was on normal not easy I lost 16 troops throughout the campain almost all of them really early on)

yeah i agree they are good. still, the best squad has all 4 classes, i usually do 1 heavy 1 support 2 assaults 2 snipers since having 2 run and gun is crazy good, and having a sniper with double tap and one with in the zone can get you several kills in one turn if you posiution them well. using 3 snipers and 1 support is the kind of stuff you do when RNGesus is messing with you and you are on impossible so rookies are not an option.

I find myself using many snipers in x-com as well I seem to prefer them

i never talked to you, it was the other guy who was saying i was. he was scamming using that name, impersonated by one of his friends, i set that name to scare him a bit, and he confused me with his friend. i never chatted directly to you.
