I think it's rather unfair that most people are reviewing the game based upon the lack of to-Steam updates. Following the official game website, http://playstarboud.com gives you daily insights as to what the Chucklefish team is working on for the future full release. They have also mentioned more than once that, if you are willing, there is a nightly unstable update branch that allows you access to the daily system and content updates, should you wish to help find any glitches.

TL;DR it's true that there haven't been any STABLE steam updates, but taking a daily look at the Starbound website shows that there is plenty of work going on to ensure that the final release is as amazing as we've all been hoping for.
