Great port that I've been running maxed on my middle-of-the-road system (i5-4590/GTX 960/10gb RAM/Windows 10). Much speedier load times than the console versions and you get all the aesthetic options from the PS3 version of the game, which means you can ditch the unnerving 3D portraits and horrific English voice acting straight away. The game runs at 60fps and there's a robust selection of graphics settings to play around with.

Sadly, the game still sucks beacause of:

- Creepy anime sex dolls vaguely emoting every trope under the sun at each other!

- tri-Ace's inability to develop a game that doesn't have annoying pacing issues - hope you enjoy being railroaded into talking to every NPC, grinding for levels and inventions to get past unreasonable difficulty spikes and wandering around aimlessly at regular intervals!

- A god awful racket of a soundtrack by Motoi Sakuraba that's so bad it actually tarnishes my memories of the preceding games' music!

- The worst characters in the series!

- Since it cannot be stressed enough, the WORST characters in the series!

- The worst writing in the series (handily unseating the previous champ, Till the End of Time)!

At least the post-game content is decent and you get four person teams back, right? Not sure why SE thought The Last Hope was the best introduction to the series for Steam users, but look at it this way: no matter which installment comes out next, it'll be an improvement. Maybe grab this one on the cheap during a sale.

Pretty correct valkyrie profile 1 and 2 are by far the least cheesy of these games. That being said i enjoy them because old school rpg's are a dying genre and I personally enjoy them faults and all right down to the giant world maps, grindy battles, and cheesy storylines.

I swear the series gets cheesier with every installment.

Most of tri-Ace's stories are tropey pap, yes. Off the top of my head I can only really think of two with any real depth: the first Valkyrie Profile and bits of Resonance of Fate. I always assumed that people played their stuff for the amazing tech (I remember being floored by SO3's graphics), rad fights and post-game brawls with godlike versions of older tri-Ace characters.

I kinda disagree. As someone who has played all 3, now playing the fourth, I honestly found that number two had the most fanfiction level bullshit put into it. Especially with the sword of light faser gun subplot and the time traveling portal just sending someone across time and space for no real reason. Furthermore while i love double dragon man and the claude c kenny, they where literally as generic as they come. With extra points added on to number 2's buxome mage, child genius, and number ones fox girl in a leotard. The casts of every one of the games could be described generically. Not to say i hate any of the characters, in fact i like them probably more than most of the characters in number four. But I also saw every single private action, so they would have to be written ubsurdly poorly for me not to everntually like them. By comparison to the generic anime tropes of star ocean 1 and 2 the generic scifi anime tropes of star ocean 3 and 4 aren't really any worse just different.

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=188084 Plenty of threads just like this are a google away. Just because you’ve never personally come across the opinion doesn’t mean it’s not out there. Plenty of reasons to like SO3, but the crap story isn’t one of them.

Most that never played the first two, I guess.

Legitimately never heard that from anyone. Most would consider it the best game in the series.
Vintage Devilry 16. dec. 2017 kl. 0:11
Pretty sure that's a commonly-held opinion. From Disc 2 onward, ESPECIALLY the big plot twist, is fanfic levels of terrible that completely invalidates everything that happened in the game and the two installments that preceded it. It's a tire fire, dude.

You think till the end of time had the worst writing? You're out of your god damn mind lol
