It shows 6.6 hours of gameplay on record, but it is far more than that. Whenever you use GZDoom mods running from outside Steam, Steam won't register it. The number is cool though.

Free update and sortofa remaster

The free update for those who already have the game, and the state of the game now with Bethesda's implemantations consists in resolution compatibilities with new hardware. I haven't seen anything special other than higher resolutions and other tweaks. Officially, they finally named a few things after Doom's community - turned into a culture - and let's be honest, Doom was defo inspired by Evil Dead movies, so let's call it by the way it must be; it's Groovy.

Andrew's famous remaster of music tracks are included in the package. We already have many mods with fan works but now this is also officially accepted, it comes with the game a nice version of it. It captures the industrial action horror well, perhaps except for a few that didn't (ex; E1M2 sounds too metal when it was originally slower in tone) but overrall they're nice additions.

Doom fans will remember the old alpha had enemies sprites that have never been used in the final version. I saw new enemies in the new expansion that came with it (apart from the original's Thy Flesh Consumed, Plutonia etc), those being; Legacy of Rust and even Romero's Sigil - originally for free on his own website, now included with this game altogether. Ghoul, some sort of rejected Lost Soul, Banshee, Shock Trooper (while mods such as Brutal Doom did better with scientists and new weapons) Vassago, sweet looking sort of Hell Knight with wings. Sadly, I haven't see Imp's version with wings not the "blob" spawning Lost Souls.

Fans have been "remastering" Doom for over 30 years

Just to spoil the situation, GZDoom's mod already have ray tracing in the engine, while the remaster kept things simpler.

Cool to see Bethesda trying to show off some service and caring about Doom and all, but honestly I don't see a lot of point to remaster other than making it easier for the new gen to get interested or acquainted with it. Sadly when I look at basic Steam statistics such as "Find 100% of the itens" only 1.5% of the owners of this game ever did it. Meaning peeps are still not playing it, or when they do, they don't play enough. Maybe more plays it, but with the said engine and Steam won't register or consider the achievements.

I tried to find issues with the remaster to criticize it like a motherfaiker. I finally found a few.

Doom's AI has always been simple of course, but all of them have specific forms of attack and demands specific forms of basic strategy to be taken down (hence why the game still is playabable after so many decades) but a particular enemy "Pinky" (some sort of half-minotaur, half-bull demon) has become dumber than ever before. He's not the only one but so far the most severe case is his casual approaching behavior.

I don't know how they manage to screw with such a simple AI but I saw Pinky walking in circles, or being blocked from coming to my direction many times as if invisible walls were trying to stop him. Seriously not even Snes Doom had AI so confused like this remaster.

I don't get the point to show mods in the game's menu, if the best ever made are outside sources. Brutal Doom for example is not available in there, or the possibility to use the mouse to aim and change the game's basic aiming procedure such as GzDoom and other shape-changing engines are oldschool fan-services done for free. I couldn't find these on this menu.

Remaster Final Score: 8.0/10 - Good for the new gen to come see, but too late for a remaster

Doom 1 Final Score: 100/10 - It was ahead of its time and survived far longer than the industry deserves

Doom 2 Final Score: 8.5/10 - Only a set of new levels and a new gun, the first was more innovative in the past

Expansions - I only had big time fun with Sigil. I never liked Plutonia and Rust's was mildly fun for me

The new expansion Rust with new enemies is fundamentally late, since mods are insane with creativity and have long surpassed it. I see no new emojis, such as health orb or shotgun, UAC logos, pentagram, game's props in the Steam chat stuff. I see no cards either for Steam's profile or backgrounds.
